Friendship With God
One must be quite clar about man's relationship to his higher insights in order to be able to represent to oneself the difference between such personalities as Eckhart and Tauler. Man is entangled in the world of the senses and in the laws of nature, by which the world of the senses is dominated. He himself is a result of this world. He lives because its forces and substances are active in him, and he perceives and judges this world of the sense in accordance with the laws by which it and he are constructed. When he directs his eye upon an object, not only does the object appear to him as a sum of interacting forces dominated by the laws of nature, but the eye itself is a body constructed according to such laws and forces, and the act of seeing takes place in harmony with these laws and forces. If we had attained the utmost limits of natural science, in all likelihood we could pursue this play of natural forces in accordance with natural laws into the highest regions of the formation of thought. -- But in doing this we already rise above this play. Do we not stand above all mere conformity to natural laws when we survey how we ourselves are integrated into nature? We see with our eye in accordance with the laws of nature. But we also understand the laws in accordance with which we see. We can stand on a higher elevation and survey simultaneiously the extal world and ourselves in interplay. Is not then a nature active within us which is higher than the sensoryorganic personality which acts according to natura laws and with natural laws? In such activity is there still a partition between our inner world and the external world? That which judges here, which gathers insights, is no longer our individual personality; rather it is the universal essence of the world, which has torn down the barrier between inner world and outer world, and which now embraces both. As it is true that I still remain the same individual in external appearance when I have thus torn down the barrier, so it is true in essence I am no longer this individual. In me now lives the feeling that the universal nature speaks in my soul, the nature which embraces me and the whole world. ~ Rudolf Steiner (Eleven European Mystics, The Friendship With God, page 141-143)

Allah Jallay Shan (Allah Is Great And Glorious)
Praise to you, there is no end for you. If there is any example of you then there is no example of you at all. (No one is like you) It's your perfection in the everything of this world which is perfect. You are the most glorious of all the glorious. Our beloved Prophet Mohammed is the very respectful reference of your introduction. O, Allah the greatest, the most glorious. (O, Allah) You are the highest of the highest. Your every word is chosen and selected. Genies, angels and human beings all praise you, oh my Lord. (O, Allah) Fill up my empty begging sack. Shower your mercy and benevolence upon me. You are the only King who fills the sacks of beggars. O, Allah! The greatest, the most glorious. ~ Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Sufi Music in Pakistan called Qawwali)

The fact is that no one has ever become enlightened through denying or fighting the body or through an out-of-the-body experience. Although such an experience can be fascinating and can give you a glimpse of the state of liberation from the material form, in the end you will always have to return to the body, where the essential work of transformation takes place. Transformation is through the body, not away from it. This is why no true master has ever advocated fighting or leaving the body, although their mind-based followers often have. ~ Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now)
Gurdjieff with his Fourth Way Teaching dealt with these as he said that one must focus on the mind, body & soul and that the Fourth Way was to recognize the wholeness of all three. This is because for one thing, the mind is not in the body but rather the body is in the mind. You cannot really leave the body except in appearances when one believes that their body is something that they reside in and that they are just a vessel trapped in the flesh. The truth is that there is no flesh but rather our limited and incomplete understanding of the consciousness which we perceive as body in its incomplete state rather than the Wholeness of the Absolute attributes of what the body represents as the body of our consciousness. It is in the understanding of this truth which is the essence of the one time mystical practice of communion which eventually was lost to only the understanding of human ritual. ~ Derek Lamar

What if God was one of us, Just a slob like one of us, Just a stranger on the bus, Trying to make His way home, Tryin' to make His way home, Back up to Heaven all alone, Nobody callin' on the phone. ~ Eric Bazilian
I AM one... for a change
If God were one of us who would it be, could it be all of us if we were only three, if we were only one and thought that we were many, would we have to wait until there just weren't any? ~ D.L.

Beyond the beauty of the external forms, there is more here: something that cannot be named, something ineffable, some deep, inner, holy essence. Whenever and wherever there is beauty, this inner essence shines through somehow. It only reveals itself to you when you are present. Could it be that this nameless essence and your presence are one and the same? Would it be there without your presence? Go deeply into it. Find out for yourself. ~ Eckhart Tolle (The Power Of Now)
I AM present... for a change
Within the stillness of space are thousands of worlds as busy as our own and it is all in our mind. ~ D.L.

The way all spiritual people fall off their paths is by walking on the paved roads of others. Sometimes our paths and others roads overlap but we must always remember which road is which. Otherwise when our path moves on and we don't, we will know when we made that choice. ~ Derek Lamar

Argue for your limitations and you get to keep them! ~ Richard Bach (Illusions)
They say that "what you fear comes upon you" which goes hand in hand with "never say never". Whatever it is that you fear, clearly you believe in it. If you say "never" it is probably prompted out of fear or some form of denial in which case you believe in this and basically feel weak in that area and that you might slip back into this pattern as if it has more power over you than you do of yourself. Know that within you is the power and the strength to be alive with incredible fortitude and confidence waiting to come forth and guide you and your creative energies into the life you have yet to live. ~ Derek Lamar
I AM being fulfilled... for a change
A word is worth a thousand pictures. ~ D.L.

Certain teachings compare man to a house of four rooms. Man lives in one room, the smallest and poorest of all, and until he is told of it, he does not suspect the existence of the other rooms which are full of treasures. When he does learn of this he begins to seek the keys to these rooms and especially the fourth, the most important, room. And when a man has found his way into this room he really becomes the master of his house, for only then does the house belong to him wholly and forever. ~ G. I. Gurdjieff (20th Century Mystic)
I AM the key... for a change
When you look in someone else's eyes, don't try to find yourself. ~ D.L.

The One in which God and man are united, stands free of itself and of all things, and whatever is in it is there for God's sake and not for man's, or the creature's. For the essential existence of God is without this and that, and without selfhood and I-hood, and the like; but it is the nature and property of the creature to seek itself and its own things, and this and that, here and there, and in all that it does and leaves undone its desire is to its own advantage and benefit. Now where a creature or a man denies and forsakes himself and his own and his selfhood, there God enters in with His own, that is, with Himself. ~ The Theologia Germanica, 1457 (The Secret Path, Ed. Paul Brunton)
I AM Himself... for a change
There is nothing more sensual than holding someone's hand. ~ D.L.

To know the Now is to know that the past and the present and the future are all ONE. This unfoldment represents the symbolic unity of the infinite variety which is Truth. The holographic nature of the Universe is all ONE and as we cognize concepts of time, space and change we perceive the elements of reality in separate and distinct realities but this reality by itself is not the whole Truth. Until we realize that we are all ONE with all that is, this duality will create a perception of separateness which ultimately is what is responsible for all of the misperceptions and thus problems that we experience in life. Your solutions are to be found in the Now as the Whole that you are. You are not becoming but rather you are NOW whole, complete and perfect. ~ Derek Lamar
I AM ONE... for a change
The more you learn about Self, the more you will discover there are no others. ~ D.L.

When the compulsive striving away from the Now ceases, the joy of Being flows into everything you do. The moment your attention turns to the Now, you feel a presence, a stillness, a peace. You no longer depend on the future for fulfillment and satisfaction -- you don't look to it for salvation. Therefore you are not attached to the results. Neither failure nor success has the power to change your inner state of Being. You have found the life underneath your life situation. ~ Eckhart Tolle

What is the obligation of a "Teacher"? Do they speak their minds or do they say what people want to hear? If you just say what people want to hear no one will learn anything. If you say what people don't want to hear they will turn away and go somewhere else because they no longer want to listen to you. Do you just tell them what they want to hear in order to gain financial support for your own personal work or do you let your voice be heard knowing that some might hear while others will turn away? When people hear what they want to hear they still aren't hearing you they are hearing themselves. When people turn away from what you are saying they are not turning their back on you but on their own denial about themselves. Yes, it is a challenge. But if you keep it simply spiritual and upbeat and general and Universal enough that everyone agrees you will be giving out meaningless chatter like Pablum to the elderly waiting to die. It is a dilemma. But the sad fact is you must be willing to speak Truth wherever you find it on whatever level you find it to be regardless of the outcome. And yet, one must be sly in doing so like a thief in the night. ~ Derek Lamar, Teacher

We conceive essence as nake and pure Being as it is in itself. For (precisely in its purity of being) Essence is higher than knowledge and life, for insofar as it is essence it has both knowledge and life. -- If the sould knows God in His creatures, that is only evening light: if it knows His creatures in God that is morning light: but if it know God as He who alone is Being, that is the clear light of midday. Therefore man ought to desire, to behold with an almost insane passion that Essence is thus noble. ~ Meister Eckhart
I AM Essence... for a change
To discover the self you must let go of the self. ~ D.L.

Meanwhile we may close with a few parting words to our readers. Power belongs to him who knows; this is a very old axiom: knowledge, or the first step to power, especially that of comprehending the truth, of discerning the real from the false belongs only to those who place truth above their own petty personalities. Those only who having freed themselves from every prejudice, and conquered their human conceit and selfishness, are ready to accept every and any truth once the latter is undeniable and has been demonstrated to them those alone, I say, may hope to get at the ultimate knowledge of things. It is useless to search for such among the proud scientists of the day, and it would befolly to expect the aping masses of the profane to turn against their tacitly accepted idols. ~ H. P. Blavatsky

Man, as he really is, and as he eternally has been and shall be, is a spiritual being. Life in the physical body does not detract from the truth of this statement. The material senses hold man under a hypnotic glamour and, real enough in their own way, cause him to confound his true self with them. Heaven lies about us, not only during the innocent days of infancy, but every moment of our existence, yet we know it not. A few are so close to this truth that they are unconsciously waiting for the miraculous moment of recognition. They have but to be told of it in the right way and hope will flash up in their soulds. That hope is the silent voice of the Overself." ~ Paul Brunton (The Secret Path, 1935)

Death is not a final destination but merely a quick breeze blowing through your hair. You may think you got messed up but nothing really happened. You just get out your comb, do a quick run through and you're on your way again. Life is what is forever. MIND is what is Eternal. ~ Derek Lamar

Thoughts on Tikkun Olam ("Repair
of the World")"It is written 'Depart from
evil, and do good' (Psalm 34:15) ... You have done wrong,
then balance it by doing right" (Gates of Repentance). Admitting
and accepting that we have done wrong, we can forgive ourselves
by choosing to turn toward building a better future. The Torah
says that our choice of action is to be found near us, not far
away, found within our hearts and in our minds. There is a safety
clause to our choosing. When we make mistakes, admit our wrongdoing,
and turn ourselves towards good; we can appeal our fate.Just
pick something! If it works, celebrate and continue! If it fizzles,
do something else.

Song sung by Johnny Cash 1932 - 2003 died yesterday 9/12/03
So much we do to pretend we are alive because a part of us thinks we are not. We scare ourselves because the fear makes us feel alive. We hurt ourselves because the pain makes us feel alive. We get mad and rage at things because the anger makes us come alive. The delicate nuances of caring and love and excitement are covered over by years of stress and discontent and thus we resort to extreme exercises to tap into life even though it is not real life but rather an artificial form of feeling which is exponentially point and counter point to that which we haven't allowed ourselves to feel if we were free inside. ~ Derek Lamar (Fourth Way Master)
I AM feeling myself... for a change
If I could let myself feel, I would choose to feel alright. ~ D.L.

We know tha this feeling, this intuition of methematical order, that makes us divine hidden harmonies and relations, cannot be possessed by every one. Some will not have either this delicate feeling so difficult to define, or a strength of memory and attention beyond the ordinary, and then they will be absolutely incapable of understanding higher mathematics.
It may be surprising to see emotional sensibility invoked apropos of mathematical demonstrations which, it would seem can interest only the intellect. This would be to forget the feeling of mathematical beauty, of the harmony of numbers and forms, of geometric elegance. This is a true esthetic feeling that all real mathematicians know, and surely it belongs to emotional sensibility. ~ Henri Poincare (Mathematical Creation)
It isn't just the seemingly appropriate ORDER in an intellectual sense which is marvelous but even the unknown quotients which exist within the supernatural manifestation of MIND all around us screaming at us with wisdom and brilliance and echoing the reality that as manifested physicality as consciousness we must at some point recognize that what we are perceiving is in fact our own consciousness. For there is but ONE MIND. ~ Derek Lamar (Quantum Metaphysics)

What you are, the world is. And without your

We need to realize that we are not just physical beings on a material

And then I must pause and remember that there is but ONE MIND and within that consciousness I must relax and know that I AM all there is and that despite the appearances within my consciousness the reality which exists is Whole, Complete and Perfect. And if there is a you out there reading this it is just another aspect of me discovering myself again for the first time. ~ Derek Lamar

The spiritual journey does not consist of arriving at a new destination where a person gains what he did not have, or becomes what he is not. It consists in the dissipation of one's own ignorance concerning oneself and life, and the gradual growth of that understanding which begins the spiritual awakening. The finding of God is a coming to one's self. ~ Aldous Huxley
The Four Reliances: First, rely on the spirit and meaning of the teachings, not on the words; Second, rely on the teachings, not on the personality of the teacher; Third, rely on real wisdom, not superficial interpretation; And fourth, rely on the essence of your pure Wisdom Mind, not on judgemental perceptions. ~ Traditional Buddhist teaching

Dedicated to Diao Shih Fu...
Through music we are actively resonating to the ten thousand things that make our world. I would speculate that the human capacity to resonate sympathetically is at the root of music's species-wide significance. Music allows one to grasp physically that the external world is our kin. Music incites perceptual vitality, and the well-performed music of every culture offers hints to consciousness of the world's on-going currents. Music reinforces the broadly religious insight that we share our world with others and the ethical ideal of living in harmony with them. It not only presents these ideals to our intellects; it offers a perceptual experience that serves to ground them. ~ Kathleen Marie Higgins (Music And Ten Thousand Things)
The terra cotta soldiers are ten thousand things, the people and their shadows upon the wall are ten thousand things, a million, a billion, one alone, ten thousand things are as one to what one is to ten thousand things. A picture is worth a thousand words and a word is worth a thousand pictures. I am but one alone without my comrades I am nothing. I am nothing with my comrades for I am all. I turn inside and see the Chinese moon as it speaks of an age gone by and know that I have returned to answer yes to the water foul that flies by. I am away when I am at home and when I am at home I shall be away. When I accept all of me and all of you I shall never again be alone and away. ~ Derek Lamar, M.Msc. (in America)

Death does not exist, neither in this world nor in any other. He does not prowl about devouring living creatures, but is a ghost, a bogy, a scare, an apparition that vanishes, with the mind in a state of attention. Dhananjaya, attention! - Sanatsugata
There is no psychology among human beings which can fathom the vision of the overcoming of death in that sacred ecstasy of love itself, which stands serene upon a rock, in the escaping and in the presentation of the doors that lure those whose hearts are passionate for adventure, and who fail to be stolen by that immortal Thief who is God Himself!@ -- stolen away to be the king. ~ George Edwin Burnell (The Chronicle of Reality, 1922-1924

The very heavens seemed to open and pour down rays of light and glory. Not for a moment only, but all day and night, floods of light and glory seemed to pour through my soul, and oh, how I was changed, and everything became new. My horses and hogs and everybody seemed changed. ~ William James (from Alan Watts, This Is It within John White's The Highest State of Consciousness).
I came back into the hall and was about to go to my seat when the whole outlook changed. A broad expanse opened, and the ground appeared as if all caved in... As I looked around and up and down, the whole universe with its multitudinous sense-objects now appeared quite different; what was loathsome before, together with ignorance and passions, was now seen to be nothing else but the outflow of my own inmost nature which in itself remained bright, true, and transparent. ~ Yuan-chou (quoted by Suzuki in Essays in Zen Buddhism, from Alan Watts, This Is It within John White's The Highest State of Consciousness).
I suddenly realized as I was singing my song on stage that I was no longer on stage. I was way up in the curtains looking at the entire audience. I could hear myself performing, singing, playing the guitar, yet it was quiet and peaceful. Suddenly I realized I wasn't "on" the stage and fear overcame me and it was as if a vacuum sucked me back into my body and I was again looking out at the audience from what was "me" in my physical form. As the song continued I again slipped out of my body and observed as before and felt the peace of life rather than the desperate need for attention and reassurance that I was okay. Just as quickly my fear returned and I was again upon the stage wrestling with the human emotions of insecurity and concern that I get it right and yet... again I would drift off into that other realm, watching, observing, feeling the peace I had never felt before. ~ After a spectacular metaphysical class held at the Hotel del Coronado, a class which I went deep within myself and brought the forces of male and female together and in a moment of fusion touched the face of God within myself, I found myself walking down the Santa Monica pier with a fellow classmate. As we walked it was quiet. There was just a small amount of fog and there were people gathered around the end of the pier. Perhaps 50. As we got to about 200 feet from the end of the pier everyone turned and looked up toward our direction and stared at us. They did this, not in unison, but all at about the same time, perhaps 60% of them. And they just stared as if they were viewing a glimpse of what we had seen and somewhere within the collective unconscious they were able to tap into that feeling for just a few seconds, and then turn away again. To go back to their fishing because they knew what that was about and they had no place to hang whatever that other moment was in their mind. ~ Years later during class there were times when the walls almost seemed to dissolve. Surely the walls within consciousness were becoming more and more transparent. There was nervousness and anxiety and fear and some anger, a little resistence and yet at a point, this was overcome and it could be felt. The whole collective unconscious could be felt and a change took place then and there within that room within that mind which had become one and nothing would ever be the same again... and there was a peace. Even though the class continued there was a peace hanging there in Eternity to watch as the moment found its level within all of us. ~ After facing many feelings about my parents and getting much of my anger out for the first time in a new way, a way which was real, a way which was without guilt and with definite understanding of what had been done to me and how I did not have to be imprisoned by that moment anymore, that inner child did not have to be damaged by those experiences anymore, I was free to love that child, to love myself and even more important I was free to be loved by myself. There was a peace in this. It was like traveling outside of time... it was like walking in the clouds across a familiar lake with the rustle of wind through your hair and never noticing that your feet were not even touching the ground. And when your feet touched the ground finally and the peace seemed to be comfortable at a distance, it would never be out of reach again. ~ Derek Lamar (Mystical Experiences & Higher States of Consciousness)

One must always look at their "world" and know that it is within them. No matter what one perceives it is their own consciousness they are viewing. The spiritual path is not one of doing good things. The spiritual path is not one of thinking good thoughts. The spiritual path is one where one is willing to spend a portion of their time looking at themselves and making changes in their consciousness with the intention of expressing truth rather than illusion.
