Quote of the Day

God is spirit, and those who worship must worship in spirit and truth. ~ Jesus (John 4:24)
Prayer and worship is the recognition of God, Truth, Reality. It is not an act designed to appear as if you are sincere and doing "good things" but rather simply your own inner work seeing truth as truth really is. To know truth one must let go of error in order that he or she create a vacuum for truth to be present and realized. Truth is always already there but we must let go of the illusion, the denial, the error, which blocks the light there waiting to shine. ~ Derek Lamar

Truth shall make you free

What distinguishes dream games from the other games we play is that we play them not only for ourselves but against ourselves. If the purpose of any dream game is to give us a message about ourselves -- and it is -- we lose the game when we defeat that purpose. We lose, and nobody wins. The dream is an attempt at communication. Within the limits of its language and the conscience of the dreamer, it says what it means and it means what it says. If we fail to understand it, it is not because the Self has been so tricky that it has defeated the I (although it is true that the Self can be very wily at times), but because the I is not effectively putting its interpretive powers to work. ~ Eve Loman (You Are What You Dream)

Dream little dream of me...

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. ~ Matthew 5:15
I have lost more than a friend, I have lost an inspiration. She would rather light candles than curse the darkness and her glow has warmed the world. ~ Adlai Stevenson (in memory of Eleanor Roosevelt)
There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. ~ Edith Wharton
My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but, ah, my foes, and, oh, my friends -- it gives a lovely light. ~ Edna St. Vincent Millay
~ all of the above from Hermes by Brahma Vach
I want to see the light inside but something's in the way. I step forward and I step back but nothing comes into play. No matter which way I turn, no matter how hard I fight. I can see the shadow and it's me that blocks the light. ~ Derek Lamar

Let there be Light, and there is

It would clearly be a mistake to think of St. Thomas Aquinas, and even more of a mistake St. Augustine, as Clement-types or extreme rationalists in theology. Nevertheless, they do represent a strain of thinkers within the Christian tradition who, though acknowledging the final authority of revelation, theologize with a distinctly intellectualist bent. Their theologies are classic examples of fides quaerens intellectum, "faith in search of understanding." Of course, we have already seen this principle at work in the birth of St. Anselm's Ontological Argument.

St. Thomas inherited from Greek philosophy an interest in man as a rational being. According to that tradition, and especially Plato and Aristotle, there is implanted in all men a natural appetite for knowledge, and it is by virtue of his reason that man is elevated above all other creatures. Everything has its proper good or end, and man's proper end is rational activity. Contemplation and the pursuit of knowledge actualizes, enhances, and perfects man's essential nature and happiness. It is clear that Thomas adopts this understanding of man when he says, "Among all human pursuits, the pursuit of wisdom is more perfect, more noble, more useful, and more full of joy." More specifically, he derived his doctrine from the Aristotelian conception of reality that came finally to exert so much influence over the entire Thomistic system. God, the highest reality, is pure form or actuality; in him there is no matter or unrealized potency. This means, in a word, that God is pure intelligence. Now insofar as man is possessed of intelligence, he partakes, says Aristotle, in the life of the gods. Thomas agrees with Aristotle that the ancient poets were simply wrong when they insisted, "It ill befits a mortal to think immortal thoughts." It behooves us, rather, to soar as high as our intellect can take us, thereby realizing and exercising as much as possible the divine element within us. ~ L. Miller, Editor (God and Reason: A Historical Approach To Philosophical Theology)

To reason takes us to the door through which we walk into our own Divinty

Why do we have bodies? What is the body for? Modern psychologists have blamed the teachings of Christianity for our inability to live with this question, taking St. Paul as the arch villain. But Paul's condemnation of the "sins of the flesh" is the condemnation not of the body, but of a wrong and self-deceiving relationship to the body, the submission of that in ourselves which is designed to rule to that in ourselves which is designed to serve. The body as such is for Paul a "servant," and good. It is impossible to say exactly when the attitude of hatred and fear of the body became associated with Christianity. Even the medieval monks who practiced "mortification of the flesh" did not necessarily understand the body itself to be the enemy was the tendency of man to form a fixed image of himself based on experiences of physical pleasure and pain. This is the essence of the idea of sin for both Christianity and Judaism: the attraction to a false or incomplete picture of one's own possibilities. In "sin," man sells himself short, as is illustrated in the biblical story of Esau, who forfeited his birthright because of an empty stomach. ~ Jacob Needleman (A Sense Of The Cosmos)

A basic understanding of sin is in the definition as "missing the mark" and it should be understood that despite religious morality, one should look at the activities of the individual which pertain to seeking to fulfill themselves in some manner outside of themselves and their own SELF and this relates that incomplete duality which is not only forever unfulfilled but also a lie about the Truth of the Self which attests that one is already whole, complete and perfect. ~ Derek Lamar

The body of God is the completeness of expression

The end of the world, the destruction of life as we know it, end times, the Apocalypse, Armageddon, Judgment Day, are all concepts which represent a certain state of consciousness of mankind. Each individual has within them that need to let go of the false self and allow their True Self to issue forth. This is called a spiritual dying process. It is also called Born Again or Born From Above. It is the Transformation. Psychologically the subconscious mind and the ego fights this desire to change because it senses change as "death" and it resists it at all cost because the subconscious feels that letting go or giving up control is the death of the unconscious. But this is not true. It is just the fear that a part of one's consciousness reacts to. And this individual fear of death in a spiritual sense, if avoided in one's life, will find death in the worldly human sense interpreted as a personal dying on some level. And it might even turn into a paranoid fear of dying or even subconsciously maneuvering them into destructive situations if only to play out their belief system in order that this belief be expressed somehow in their life. This multiplied by all of the people on the face of the earth and linked together becomes what we know as the collective unconscious and this aspect will form a belief within humanity of a dangerous and deadly scenario which could play itself out and yet it is still rooted in unconscious fears and it does not need to be fulfilled by the unfoldment of life on this planet. If change is made in individuals spiritually and this begins to multiply among groups of people a change within consciousness can change the outcome of what people might portend for this planet. The change begins with you. ~ Derek Lamar

Knowing begins with recognizing that you are MIND

Observe the pieces of your life which seem to come out of nowhere. Often those are the most revealing of one's path. Your SELF will be trying its damnedest to move you toward "truth" and aid you in confronting yourself. Your unconscious is working to get you to avoid seeing reality while your Higher Self is guiding you to know who you really are. Each are on a collision course with each other and ultimately it is your True Self which will win out. But if you can become "conscious" in this process it will unfold in a smoother and more harmonious manner. ~ Derek Lamar

Feeling is the experience of reacting to what you think reality is

My mother-in-law was born on February 23. Happy Birthday Bonnie Mae Gunn Ryan!!!

Sunday, February 22, 2004

I stood on the rim of the earth and as I gazed into the overhanging clouds which proceeded the storm behind them I could see flashes of lightning but I could hear no sound. Is what I saw what was real or was it what I did not hear that which revealed the entire event an illusion? Was I dreaming or in a daytime fantasy as my thoughts unwraveled like a ball of yarn rolling across the floor? Have I spoken or am I still lost in thought? Are you listening or can you read these words you discover within your mind? Is this providence or perhaps an appointment with someone else's destiny? ~ Derek Lamar

Thinking is the gathering of words which hold the heart in place

My mother was 2 when it was 2-22-22... Happy Birthday wherever you are. I always loved you too.

Positive prayer is receptive prayer. We have to let ourselves be helped. True prayer is not begging, but an affirmation. We do not make things happen, we allow them to come to pass. True prayer affirms the thing which is to be in such a receptive way that the white matter of the brain is revitalized by positive engrams that become a permanent part of one's being. True prayer, then, is a process, a development. ~ William R. Parker (Prayer Therapy, 1953)

Prayer is a recognition of the resolution already at hand

Whether or not one subscribes to the "Big Bang Theory" as it pertains to the origins of our Universe, it stands as a modern archetype for the fragmentation which can be traced back to a whole individual Oneness as the "beginning" or the essence of that which we search for in order to perceive our original state. So too is the fragmentation in our lives and the appearance of our "many selves" or "many i's" which once traced back to our beginning, which has no beginning and has no end, to the Oneness which represents the Truth of who we really are, then the appearance or dream we find ourselves immersed in... disappears. It is the whole, complete and perfect Oneness which is in back of the appearances we call life. But the Truth is that in back of time, space and change there is a fundamental reality which has no beginning, it has no end and it has no division within Infinite Reality. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Truth is the only reality we must search for

To receive treatment one must want it, at least on some level. And to want it one must consider oneself to be in need of it. One must, at least on some level, acknowledge his or her imperfection. There are an enormous number of people in this world with serious and identifiable psychiatric problems who, in a psychiatrist's eyes, are quite desperately in need of treatment, but who fail to recognize this need. So they don't get treatment even when it is offered on a silver platter." ~ M. Scott Peck, M.D. (People of The Lie)

There are many people beyond the clinically maladjusted who also fit the pattern of desperately needing psychological help. However, these people, instead, need help of a spiritual nature because it is more of an injured heart than a damaged brain. But here too, it requires the desire for change by recognizing that a transformation is awaiting them and they want nothing more than to achieve this for themselves. To shed their skins of a costume which no longer fits and step forward into the light of their True nature. ~ Derek Lamar, D.D.

God is the mirror of Absolute Reality

Wednesday, February 18, 2004

Among the purposes of all leaders, messiahs, messengers from the gods, and so forth, there was one fundamental and very important purpose: to find some means by which the two sides of man, and, therefore, the two sides of the earth, could live together in peace and harmony. He said that time was very short -- it was necessary to achieve this harmony as soon as possible to avoid complete disaster. Philosophies, religions and other such movements had all failed to accomplish this aim, and the only possible way to accomplish it was through the individual development of man. As an individual developed his own, unknown potentialities, he would become strong and would, in turn, influence many more people. If enough individuals could develop themselves -- even partially -- into genuine, natural men, able to use the real potentialities that were proper to mankind, each such individual would then be able to convince and win over as many as a hundred other men, who would, each in his turn, upon achieving development, be able to influence another hundred, and so on. ~ Fritz Peters (Boyhood With Gurdjieff)

God is cognizant of only a finished kingdom

Sometimes I think about what I know to be true and it dawns on me that it really is. As Mind I must realize that I am all there is. And I must know that everyone else is this same Mind thinking, feeling, being and that they are not separate from me. I am neither them nor are they me but each is the same Mind which is all. Infinite and glorious breathing in and out across the Universe; within and without, above and below, giving and receiving, single and infinite, male and female, questions and answers. ~ D.L.

God is a word we use to find ourselves

Monday, February 16, 2004

I know nothing of a "world" and of "worldly life" that separate us from God. What is designated that way is life with an alienated It-world, the life of experience and use. Whoever goes forth in truth to the world, goes forth to God. Concentration and going forth, both in truth, the one-and-the-other which is the One, are what is needful. ~ Martin Buber (I And Thou)

It is paramount today that we begin to interact with our world knowing that it is not separate from us nor from God and that in Reality it is all one. And that when we interact with our world we are doing so, not in a physical sense, not in a dimensional sense, not in a fragmented sense, but in Consciousness and flowing as mind unfolding expressing the infinite allness that Truth is, as God, as Oneness. In this sense to know God is to say to ourselves: I AM THAT I AM. ~ Derek Lamar

God is already acquainted with himself, now it's your turn

The more one knows the more responsibility they have for others. This is because as you expand your consciousness the more you extend yourself. At some point you must realize that no longer do the people around you represent beings outside who you are. Rather everything you perceive is your consciousness and everything you see others go through somehow, someway reflects your own state of consciousness and cannot be construed as being in some world outside who you are as Consciousness. ~ Derek Lamar

God is unfoldment, receive it

Love is the Oneness one feels for another. The realization of Oneness on some level. The desire to become One. All things are moving toward a Oneness of everything else. The path of least resistance. Often it is the attraction of opposites or somehow elements which fulfill the puzzle where parts feel missing. Love can and usually involves someone else but True Love is the realization of the Self which includes all that there is. Ultimately LOVE is the realization of Truth in its Infinite State. Happy Valentine's Day. Love isn't doing what you want; Love isn't doing what they want; Love is letting Mind unfold and allowing it to have its way with you. ~ Derek Lamar

God is Love

If one wishes to know himself or herself, it is necessary to know what Reality is. To know Reality one must know what or who God is, or Spirit or Truth or Principle or something which represents a fundamental reality in back of time, space and change. It is impossible to know yourself without understanding the "world" in which you exist as it really is underneath all of the illusions we create about life and ourselves. Why do we create a make-believe world? Some of it is out of ignorance, some out of protection and some in order to hide from who we fear we are. The Truth is our real Self is greater than anything we can imagine and the facade we create about our illusory self is so meaningless in the face of what we have yet to discover. But like the Chinese saying: the long journey begins one step at a time. We must peel back the onion skin one layer at a time until we discover the essence which is the real "I". ~ Derek Lamar, PSI-chologist

I shall be known by this name for all time: "I AM THAT I AM"

God is sitting in heaven when a scientist prays to Him. "God, we don't need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing - in other words, we can now do what you did in the beginning." "Oh, is that so? Tell Me..." replies God. "Well," says the scientist, "we can take dirt and form it into the likeness of you and breath life into it, thus creating man." God replied; "Well, that's very interesting...show Me." So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil into the shape of a man. "No, no, no..." interrupts God, "Get your own dirt." ~ unknown

God and I, in space alone and nobody else in view.
Where are the people, oh, Lord, I said, and the earth below, and the sky o'er head,
and the dead, whom once I knew. Those were dreams! The Great God said
Dreams, that seemed to be true. There were no people, living or dead,
and no earth below, and no sky o'er head, There's only Myself and you.
Then why do I feel no fear, I said, Meeting You here, in this way?
For I have sinned, I know full well, and there is Heaven, and there is hell.
Is this the Judgment Day? Those were dreams! God smiled and said,
Dreams that have ceased to be! There's no such thing as fear, OR sin!
There is no you! You have never been! There's nothing at all, be Me!

Change is not necessarily the only constant. Many pseudo-intellectuals love to quote that. And they do so because there is so much they want different than the way that it is. It is usually a matter of politics. I'm not saying that change is not a constant. But one need understand exactly what change is to better appreciate it. When change is the only Absolute that you will allow into your understanding then you have fooled yourself into opening the gate to all Absolutes. But all Absolutes must agree with each other and ultimately be linked to the one and only Absolute otherwise there is no Absolute at all. And yet there must be One Absolute otherwise everything would fling itself into the Universe except for the fact that everything would also fall apart and its parts would fall apart and as soon as all parts were falling apart then that would become an Absolute. The Truth is that Infinite Variety which agrees in Oneness is the Axiom around which everything revolves and change is the ongoing unfoldment of this infinity which continues to express itself as the Eternal Being that the Universe is. And then there is you. And you think you are separate from that. Won't you be surprised. ~ Derek Lamar, Ontologist

Oneness is having to claim the good and the bad in the self before enlightenment

We're always stronger than we think and weaker than we pretend. ~ Derek Lamar, Fourth Way Teacher

Strength is knowing you are too weak to hold yourself back

Saturday, February 7, 2004

Sometimes you just have to sit quietly and pray for the right thing to say but the screams in your head keep you from hearing anything spiritual. Then you realize those screams are coming from you. Suddenly there is silence. The amazing shock of it all. Then you realize you are relaxed for the first time in a long time. Remember this moment and learn to recognize this observer self of you... this is as close to you as you have ever been. But you must go further. But this part of you will be your guide. Let him take you the rest of the way. Realize that everything you see is a script you have written. Don't judge yourself. Just know that this is a fact. But the Truth, that is something else. Know that you have written everything that ever was, is, or will be. Now that's Truth. ~ Derek Lamar

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprighteousness. - Psalm 143:10
The will of God is always good. ~ Ernest Holmes (Science of Mind)
We have a tendency to resist what we think the will of God to be like it has anything at all to do with a Sunday School sermon. We feel our "humanness" rebelling saying: "but, but, there are things I want to do and if I can only do the will of God somehow my life will get left out." But the will of God is our life because the will of God is all there is. God is all there is. We as the "I AM" is all there is. To do the will of God is the most exhilarating moment in one's life because it is you being who you really are for however long that moment lasts. To do the will of God is to experience your Destiny. To do the will of God is to experience harmony and balance in your world. To do the will of God is to undergo the unfoldment of Love. ~ Derek Lamar, D.D.

The nature of God is to be God, let it happen in you

Thursday, February 5, 2004

As the new worldview takes root, we will live in harmony with nature; redesign all the institutions of society, especially business, to foster the self-realization of each individual; and balance the "hard" masculine values that emphasize rationality and competition with the "soft" feminine values that stress inwardness, nurturance, and cooperation. ~ Willis Harman, Ph. D. (The New Business of Business: Science of Mind, Sept. 1994, Vol. 67 No. 9)

The nature of God is androgyny, and so too the harmonious workings of the Universe

"Physician heal thyself" - (Luke 4:23)
Or as some have interpreted, "practice what you preach". There are many comments one could make upon this, but the final line should be that one must face what they believe and what they know to be true. What others believe should not influence your own spiritual growth. And yet you should not expect others to know and understand what you cannot overcome within yourself. As the Bible also says: "Take the plank out of your own eye first, then you will be more able to help others in your midst." This is an ongoing cross to carry for all spiritual teachers. Another statement which might be said for those with ears to ear, "do not judge the words of others by their limited ability to understand them, but rather judge the meaning from your own ability to know the Truth." ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

One can never see anyone else, but only themselves

Tuesday, February 3, 2004

It is hard to say that one should focus only on the Truth and to turn away from the illusion when so much about the illusion reveals areas of thinking within us. The blocks which the illusion reflects through simply investigating our "crooked thinking" can become a science all its own. But one must remember always to come back to the Truth and focus on the Reality of what we know to be true. It is a back and forth process much like breathing in and out, here and there, above and below. It requires that one be disciplined and not let the concept of discipline fool us into thinking that we are going in the right direction if another part of our consciousness has fooled us into believing something which is keeping us from the Light. It is not easy to determine all of these things but one must be ever diligent. Also, despite the work of it all, still, it is a joy when one reaches peaks and can begin to see the view from there. Across the universe of time, space and change which too, reflects the infinite variety of that One Mind which is our ultimate Reality and our ultimate goal. ~ Derek Lamar

Fourth Way Instruction

Rather than withdraw in a monastery or an ashram, the student of the Fourth Way stayed in life, learned to use life --- use the uncertainty, shocks, suffering and negativity it produced --- to come to real life. ~ William Patrick Patterson (Ladies Of The Rope)

Ascension is like a Translation... it is the rising to heaven without
experiencing natural death... one can experience partial ascension
every time they have a truly lucid moment from beyond their limited self.
When we see someone else and look into their eyes and realize that we
are looking at ourself... we have ascended.
When we see all of our memories before us and realize that we played all
of those roles and it was mind unfolding, we have ascended.
When we realize in the bottom of despair that what we are experiencing
is all illusion and we stand up in the light knowing that all goodness
is within and we must but only speak the word, we have ascended.
When we touched the hem of His garment and we are healed and realize the
tassels were on our own robe, we have ascended.
When we realize the anger at someone is because of the hurt we
experienced as a child and that it need never hurt us again, we have ascended.
When we touch the faces of those we love and we do not need their love
in return because we have already received it, we have ascended.
When we know as we speak to others we are alone as ONE, we have ascended.
When we can discover God in a bee or a flower, in a tree or a river, we have ascended.
When our worst pain becomes a path which leads us to the light by
providing us a shadow, we have ascended.
When our words become music which is a song in unison, we have ascended.
When the sun rises and the sun sets and we know it never left, we have ascended.
When the bird sings a song from your heart and you reach out and touch
his soul with food, we have ascended.
When the male within us is female, and the female becomes male, we have ascended.
When as we touch we are touched, our Oneness reveals the Sun, we have ascended.
When we see that death is a door and a door is unfoldment, we have ascended.
When we sense God in someone's words, we discover God in ourselves and we have ascended.
and so it is.
~ Derek Lamar
