Quote of the Day

To the minister religion means proving there is a God in the church. To the Teacher spirituality means proving there is a God within. To the minister religion means there are things you have to become to enter into paradise. To the Teacher spirituality means there are things about yourself you must let go of to have heaven revealed. To the minister religion means faith in what someone else has said is your key to acceptance. To the Teacher spirituality means knowing what is so will set you free. To the minister religion means believing more in the evilness of Satan than in the goodness of God. To the Teacher spirituality means unfolding God within to realize that evil is the illusion of duality. To the minister religion means that good and evil are eternal opposites forever in battle. To the Teacher spirituality means that evil is not seeing the whole truth and that goodness is all there is. Religion tries to keep God in a building where the shadows interfere with the unlimited reality of God. Spirituality must be open to God being all there is and able to even use shadows to direct them to the Light. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Religion introduces you to God, and spirituality leads you the rest of the way

I am amazed at how often I become disenchanted with creative efforts of others until I begin to read reviews by detractors who in defiance I run to the aid of those I thought were failing. It is so important we step outside of ourselves and look at the bigger picture in order to understand that it is not what just appeals to us but how the whole is affected by the unfoldment of world events. One cannot leave themselves out nor can they leave everyone else out besides. Remember when you step outside of yourself that you don't put on the costume of the self of you who is sitting up in the clouds looking down upon humanity from an elitist perspective as well. That is a very popular seating section which does nothing but continue duality and cloud the issues and delude one into thinking that they really do know more than anyone else. There is a difference between realizing honestly that you might know more about some things than others and thinking you are better than others. And do not hide within humility by thinking you are better than others because you do that either. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

You are not who you appear to be, nor are you not who others appear to be

... a simple rule, and easy to remember. When I, a thoughtful and unbiased Presbyterian, examine the Koran, I know that beyond any question every Mohammedan is insane; not in all things, but in religious matters. When a thoughtful and unbiased Mohammedan examines the Westminster Catechism, he knows that beyond any question I am spiritually insane. I cannot prove to him that he is insane, because you never can prove anything to a lunatic --- for that is a part of his insanity and the evidence of it. He cannot prove to me that I am insane, for my mind has the same defect that afflicts his. All Democrats are insane, but not one of them knows it; none but the Republicans and Mugwumps know it. All the Republicans are insane, but only the Democrats and Mugwumps can perceive it. The rule is perfect: in all matters of opinion our adversaries are insane. When I look around me, I am often troubled to see how many people are mad. ~ Mark Twain (Christian Science, 1907)

Don't go away made... just go away

How dissonant the I of the ego sounds! When it issues from tragic lips, tense with some self-contradiction that they try to hold back, it can move us to great pity. When it issues from chaotic lips that savagely, heedlessly, unconsciously represent contradiction, it can make us shudder. When the lips are vain and smooth, it sounds embarrassing or disgusting. Those who pronounce the severed I, wallowing in the capital letter, uncover the shame of the world spirit that has been debased to mere spirituality. But how beautiful and legitimate the vivid and emphatic I of Socrates sounds! It is the I of infinite conversation, and the air of conversation is present on all its ways, even before his judges, even in the final our in prison. This I lived in that relation to man which is embodied in conversation. ~ Martin Buber (I and Thou)

Listen and learn before the pattern returns

The search for Truth is not so much the pursuit of a tangible commodity but rather understanding of what Truth itself means unto itself. Once that is understood and applied to one's self a metanoia automatically occurs. This majestic change of consciousness is the beginning of the continual healing which one experiences as they begin to unfold the realities which at present remain unseen. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Be still and know that you are what you seek

We are an emergent species coming out of and evolving from Homo sapiens, and we may be a whole set of sub species within Homo sapiens, psychologically different; slightly different. But the type that I'm speaking of is a type, a species that in my understanding has not fully been expressed and come to maturity yet on earth.

The early versions of what I'm calling the universal human, I think were among the great founders of the world religions. They emerged starting around 5,000 years ago in Egypt, India, Israel and Greece. Buddha and Jesus were examples. These began to show us a template of the potential of this emerging human. ~ Barbara Marx Hubbard

The emergence of 21st century mind is upon us
(drawn by our intention to know our Self)
(Happy Birthday George)

I find myself trapped inside of a nightmare, holding hands with my misery. Where's the light that tells me it's morning. Somehow it still looks like the moon to me. ~ Derek Lamar (Where's The Royalty For Me? 1971)

The moon reflects the light of the earth which reflects the sun
(the unconscious awareness through duality is truth unrealized)

In reality there is only one Self, but this enables you to see how the Higher Self, the Spirit of God in man, reaches down or out from the center of man's being in Divine Consciousness into the soul consciousness, and thence outward into the mortal mind, giving to man's brain its consciousness, which causes man to think his consciousness separate, when it is only the consciousness of God thinned down to the brain mind's capacity to hold and use it. ~ Joseph S. Benner (The Impersonal Life, 1914)

There is One Divine Mind, besides which there is nothing else

"All right, today's the day!" I said with a big smile when we started the day Thursday. "Today we're going to kick out all the stops! We're going to create a set of agreements that will run this classroom. It's like you'll make the rules of the school! Then we'll start a year of 'cooperative learning' for everything -- academic learning, social learning, and creative work." I said the first thing they needed to look at was 'teachers,' Sally and I to be specific, and how they were going to work with us. Mistrust is what breaks it all down between teachers and students. It starts all the problems. So I wanted them to tell me right away why they mistrusted teachers. I was sure they had some very good reasons. ~ Craig McEwen (The 12 Powers of Mentoring, 2004)

Open the cage and let the bird fly free, trust will welcome her home

Craig is not alone for I am with him.
As the Master said: "I am with you always".... or I AM...... with you always....
jesus = yeshua = the salvation of jah or I am that I am therefore the salvation of the I AM.
The priesthood of Melchizedek which is the source of our knowledge and the path of our destiny.
I AM..... love..... I wrap my arms around Craig in my mind and in my heart....
I know there is no Craig but the many roles I play in which I AM that which I call myself for I AM all there is.
I am whole, complete and perfect and I reach out to myself as I receive my touch for I AM ONE.
There is nothing to fear and nothing to regret for life goes on and I AM is eternal.
The personality we are is true as the infinite ONE of I AM expressing the infinite diversity which is the destiny
of knowing the whole complete unfoldment of MIND knowing itself forever.
I am perfection. I am harmony. I am the face of God and I am he who touches the hem of his garment.
I am the light and I am the way. I give myself and I receive myself completely.
There is no pain, there is no fear, there is peace, fulfillment and accomplishment
as I deliver myself into the hands of the Spirit I AM.

I feel therefore I AM love

Never turn your back on your self, neither be it the self you hide from or the self you strive to reveal. Always walk toward the light of knowingness as you discover the difference between the two. Once understood there is nothing to deny for it fades from your knowing and is replaced by the Truth of Being. Never close your eyes to anything you have thought or felt, whether it be what you fear and are guilty of or that which rises you up into your Being and brings you great responsibility. Never ignore what you have done when there are challenges yet to fulfill, whether they no longer seem right or proper or even if they reveal a Destiny which calls you by another name. Step into the Light which reveals your True Self and accept that as your Reality. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

I See, I Am ~ Hamilton Streetcar

These mysterious and indescribably complex processes (functions of the human body) are controlled and directed by the subconscious mind. Modern medical science stands in awe of the wisdom and power displayed in these processes. It is in contemplating the physiologic and glandular processes of the human body that we find our greatest supporting data for the assumption that the subconscious area of mind has at its disposal infinite wisdom and power. In the words of the Psalmist, we, indeed, are "fearfully and wonderfully made." ~ John K. Williams (The Wisdom of Your Subconscious Mind, 1964)

Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream ~ Lennon / McCartney / Leary

When you look at the world we humans have created you may conclude that it was created by sleeping people, because awake, aware, conscious people would manifest a very different world. ~ John Perkins, Dream Change founder and author

Man is asleep. ~ G. I. Gurdjieff

To change the world we must change our consciousness of it and our consciousness of our self. Our world IS our consciousness of our self. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Think about and change your mind and your world will change

Are you a true seeker?

The "true seeker" rarely knows that is what they are involved in early on. Often times we look for socializing. It is a lecture we go to for something to do or to meet people or we go with a friend or even a date. Sometimes we are attracted to claims that we can learn to expand our psychic abilities, or to find a meditation which will lessen stress, or healings, or ways to get new jobs with more money or companionship. Rarely do you attract people by telling them they are being offered an opportunity for continued education with books to read and research and personal self examination along with counseling or psychotherapy... not the romantic sexy Hollywood version which perks one's interest. In my own case there had been several discussions which answered questions I had my whole life. I wasn't looking to take classes, least of all join a group or, God forbid, enroll in a school... but all of that happened seemingly without any ability on my part to bolt and run for cover. It was like another part of me took over and even though I continued to be my immature lost self another part of me seemed to take me by the hand as life unfolded around me. I wouldn't change a thing. The more I began to awaken, the more I could see the choices I made throughout my life which had brought me right to this point. Was it destiny? What it free will? Was it an inner struggle, a walk-in, divine intervention? I am sure it is different for everyone... and yet, the same. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Do not fight life as it unfolds, but always observe and try to stay awake

The true History of Valentines Day (5th Century, Rome) by Mani Niall

Mid February was traditionally the time of the Lupercian festival, an ode to the God of fertility and a celebration of sensual pleasure, a time to meet and court a prospective mate. In AD 496, Pope Gelasius outlawed the pagan festival. But he was clever to replace it with a similar celebration, although one deemed morally suitable. He needed a "lovers" saint to replace the pagan deity Lupercus. The martyred Bishop Valentine was chosen as the patron saint of the new festival. Saint Valentine had been beheaded for helping young lovers marry against the wishes of the mad emperor Claudius. Before execution, Valentine himself had fallen in love with his jailer's daughter. He signed his final note to her, "From Your Valentine", a phrase that has lasted through the centuries. Pope Gelasius didn't get everything he wanted. The pagan festival died out, it is true, but he had further hoped people would emulate the lives of saints. Instead they latched onto the more romantic aspect of Saint Valentines religious life. While not immediately as popular as the more passionate pagan festival, eventually the concept of celebrating true love became known as Valentine's Day.

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make ~ Lennon / McCartney

Fear is an unfortunate thing. And when people use fear to motivate others into doing their wishes, there is something terribly wrong in this. I am constantly barraged with political email warning of the impending doom from the right or the left... I get it from both directions. And so often what is taking place is the distribution of more ignorance and fear as if that is the answer which will solve the situation. It is not. The security of knowing that God is all there is brings comfort and insight to those who are uneasy about the unfoldment of the world today. Most of what I receive from people is information which they received from someone else... and so on and so on and so on. And though well meaning it is information which people believe because when they read it themselves it agrees with what they already believe. That isn't straight thinking. That isn't Truth. That isn't Mind Unfolding. That is just more human paranoia which begets more ignorance. This state of duality can only breed more duality. Focus on Oneness. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Spread resolution, not revolution, the world will go around by itself

Entries in Liz Parker's journal (Roswell)

It's funny how the world changes sometimes, how the streets you walked your entire life seem darker, colder. How the silence isn't so quiet anymore. How eyes you've barely even noticed now look at nothing but you. How the walk home every night is no longer routine, but a victory. And then you begin to wonder...maybe it's not the world that's changed. Maybe it's just you.

I've missed a few days. But in my absence I've been thinking about some things, about life before Max Evans saved me, of how I used to pray for something to happen, something to just break the routine, you know, of school and work...something that would make a small town feel bigger, that would make a small town girl feel bigger, too. And ever since I got my wish and Max Evans patched a bullet hole 2 inches below my ribs, I realized one thing...that the bigger your world gets, the bigger your problems get, too.

~ Liz Parker (Roswell, the television series; Episode 4: "Missing")

Be careful what you ask for, you might get it ~ anonymous

Of those who start treatment most do not continue. Their cases are not discharged by the therapist but are self-terminated. Many, when magic is not forthcoming from one therapist, try another, then another, and another. Among myriad ways of expressing dissatisfaction with one's doctor a very common one is to the effect: "He doesn't understand my case." Perhaps he does not, and there may be merit in shifting. But most patients, perhaps all, wish in some degree to prescribe to the therapist how he shall cure them --- and this prescription does not include that they shall suffer in the process! ~ Frederick Perls, M.D., Ph.D., Ralph F. Hefferline, Ph.D., Paul Goodman, Ph.D. (Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and Growth in the Human Personality, 1951)
To suffer to discover release is liberation, but to suffer only to feel pain is masochism

To this question (of discovering the self) there is a positive answer only when the individual is willing to fulfill the demands of rigorous self-examination and self-knowledge. If he follows through his intention, he will not only discover some important truths about himself, but will also have gained a psychological advantage: he will have succeeded in deeming himself worthy of serious attention and sympathetic interest. He will have set his hand, as it were, to a declaration of his own human dignity and taken the first step towards the foundations of his consciousness --- that is, towards the foundations of his consciousness --- that is, towards the unconscious, the only accessible source of religious experience. This is certainly not to say that what we call the unconscious is identical with God or is set up in his place. It is the medium from which the religious experience seems to flow. As to what the further cause of such an experience may be, the answer to this lies beyond the range of human knowledge. Knowledge of God is a transcendental problem. Jung, Carl Gustav (The Undiscovered Self, 1957)
To pursue the self is to give up the self

A Fourth Way exercise would be one which a person self observes, realizes a weakness in him or herself, and then making a conscious effort to go beyond that which appears to be their tolerable limit. If you have a hard time communicating, or if your communication lacks the desire and drive and you can observe it and see in it that a part of you really does not desire to communicate, but your observer self says: "I want to change here." Then you can force yourself through will power to communicate where it appears you are holding back. If people pass you in the office and say "hello" and your response is "oh, hi," perhaps you can force yourself to be more outgoing... look them in the eyes and say something like "good morning... how are you doing today?" It sounds stupid but the other person will sense that you care and they will respond to that. If you realize it is their responding to you which you do not want, then you have more work on your hands. If you don't want to interact with other people, who symbolize other aspects of yourself, then it is within you with your own self you wish to block out. You do not desire to shut out other people, you have chosen to not know things about your self. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar (Fourth Way Teacher)
Reach out and give yourself a helping hand

As soon as we allow ourselves to think of the world as alive, we recognize that a part of us knew this all along. It is like emerging from winter into spring. ~ Rupert Sheldrake
We are all one Birds, plants, animals, minerals. We are all different manifestations of the same essential energy. ~ Alejandro Lerner
At the deepest level of ecological... is an understanding of being imbedded in a larger whole, a cosmic whole, of belonging to the universe. ~ Fritjof Capra
The ecological crisis is doing what no other crisis in history has ever done -- challenging us to a realization of a new humanity. ~ Dr. Jean Houston
A new type of thinking is essential if humankind is to survive. ~ Albert Einstein
The earth within the mind of man is within the mind of God ~ D.L.
The future was always so clear to me. A straight path towards my goal. I just never counted on there being any intersections. I guess that's what makes life more interesting. Keeping yourself open, letting new people in, changing your mind. ~ spoken by Liz Parker (Roswell television show)
And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make ~ Lennon / McCartney
In recent years there have been many reports of a growing impatience with psychiatry, with its seeming foreverness, its high cost, its debatable results, and its vague, esoteric terms. To many people it is like a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there. The magazines and mental-health associations say psychiatric treatment is a good thing, but what it is or what it accomplishes has not been made clear. Although hundreds of thousands of words about psychiatry are consumed by the public yearly, there has been little convincing data to help a person in need of treatment overcome the cartoon image of psychiatrists and their mystical couches. ~ Thomas A. Harris, M.D. (I'm OK -- You're OK, 1967)
The way you want it, the way it should be and the way it is!
(The Parent, The Child and The Adult)
How does one decide if someone knows what he may need to learn? First one must desire to know more, truly desire. You must want to know more than you don't want to know. That sounds strange to many of you. Many of you have never used "Self Observation" to any great extent and it may never have occurred to you that there are things which you turn away from, things you just don't want to know. It may not even have anything to do with yourself, as far as you are concerned but still, you turn away. No one can make you want to know. But "wanting to know" is natural. "NOT" wanting to know is indicative of a state of mind which is in denial. It usually indicates that one is afraid that they will find out something about themselves or their life, their childhood, which will turn their world upside down. But who cares? Why care about anything? What are you worried about? You could open up yourself to a plethora of visions which turn your life into a dream of reality rather than mechanical movements of breathing, eating, walking, sleeping, doing the same thing over and over again pretending that that is what life is all about when there is so much more. Mostly one realizes that they have a desire to change because they are unsatisfied with who they are and they KNOW that there must be something better. Have you ever said to yourself: "what is wrong with me?" Of course you think something is wrong with you. You have to admit that because there is something wrong with you. What could that be? You don't yet know who you really are. You can know the fullness of the divine reality which is the real you and ever problem you think you have could be over. There is "more" to this consciousness of knowing. Go ahead, reach out and grab hold. There are those who know, follow them. Let your inner heart speak to you and you will take yourself where you need to go. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Wake up and realize you have been asleep... for a long time
A man can only attain knowledge with the help of those who possess it. This must be understood from the very beginning. One must learn from him who knows. ~ George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff
A man may be born, but in order to be born he must first die, and in order to die he must first awake. ~ George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff
Self-observation brings man to the realization of the necessity of self-change. And in observing himself a man notices that self-observation itself brings about certain changes in his inner processes. He begins to understand that self-observation is an instrument of self-change, a means of awakening. ~ George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff
A man will renounce any pleasures you like but he will not give up his suffering. ~ George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff
Wake up and paint the roses
Every ceremony or rite has a value if it is performed without alteration. A ceremony is a book in which a great deal is written. Anyone who understands can read it. One rite often contains more than a hundred books. ~ George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff
Often even a hundred books can have nothing to say. Think of how many books there are out there. Think of how many books are published every year. Think about how many of them have nothing to say. Nothing to offer. But you must have an understanding of what is valuable to say that. You probably think that it is relative. And in many ways this is true. Even the dumbest book could have a passage which turns the light on for someone and their life is changed. But that is a freak occurrence which mainly requires their own ignition. But a book which turns on the light for many people, that is real, and that is something valuable. But to understand the value and meaning within a ceremony is to understand something which one might spend several lifetimes working through to understand and then ultimately apply to themselves and gain insight, maybe even enlightenment. For many people, even for humankind, the honoring of the life of Jesus and the time on the cross represents timeless principle which reflects the holographic nature of the universe. It was somewhat unique and as Gurdjieff would say, "...a reminder factor," but so much is lost to the religious mind. The ceremony of the story is the framework of the events which are held in suspended animation as far as the general understanding of their meaning but when the moment of insight is at the threshold of one's consciousness the movement from religion to spirituality takes over and suddenly, in the twinkling of an eye, enlightenment of an idea can take place. We have the life of a man, a death and then a rebirth. Is this not the esoteric blueprint for all important changes throughout history? Is this not the formula for all esoteric change? That ceremony, because in its teaching, the actual event becomes a ceremony and it is reenacted over and over again, year after year and finally it is reduced to the symbol of the cross which Jesus spoke about even before his death. It was understood that one should take up their cross. Real change requires the death of behavior. Not through will power which actually only holds behavior in a tight grip, but through the act of total release allowing a new permanent life to emerge out of that vacuum which has hidden a reality which was unknown before but which waited to rise up. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Knock and the door shall be opened, seek and you shall find

My suggestion is that at each state the proper order of operation of the mind requires an overall grasp of what is generally known, not only in formal logical, mathematical terms, but also intuitively, in images, feelings, poetic usage of language, etc. (Perhaps we could say that this is what is involved in harmony between the 'left brain' and the 'right brain'). This kind of overall way of thinking is not only a fertile source of new theoretical ideas: it is needed for the human mind to function in a generally harmonious way, which could in turn help to make possible an orderly and stable society. ~ David Bohm (Wholeness and the Implicate Order)

Ultimately, understanding the principle of mathematics is to begin to grasp the Absolute in spiritual terms. Mathematics is infinite, it is whole. It is complete. It is perfect. It is harmonious. It is order. It is balance. It is ongoing. It is one. These mathematical attributes are the same as those which have been attributed to God, Spirit, Mind, Infinite Mind, Higher Mind, Self... and also it is the implicate order to the explicate just as the esoteric is to the exoteric or the intrinsic is to the extrinsic. It is male and female thus it is androgynous. It is number which can interpret light, or vibrations, or any element to what we call the material world and at the same time it is equal in understanding as consciousness and thoughts can be understood in terms of mathematics. It is not totally inert or impersonal or detached... because all is ONE and everything is the substance which is the whole total essence that is Reality. This is Quantum Reality. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Close your eyes, let yourself go and receive yourself on the other side
The voice of the Teacher ranges from a reflection of your own self, and aspects therein, your own Higher Self, or a Tulpas of sorts which expresses a Teaching directly from the Source, whether that be God, Spirit, Mind, Being, Infinite Mind, etc. Knowing this, one should take their learning more seriously. The reason for this is because you are finding yourself on the threshold of Reality and it is the last stop before having to start that journey all over again. This isn't to sound somber, but if you deny that which is calling you, drawing you toward your healing and salvation, then you are not likely to make a turn around again in your lifetime and suddenly reach out to a Teaching which is actually speaking to you from a Higher Source. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
My own Teacher, Thane of Hawaii, once told us that it comes once in a lifetime, that ring, like on the merry-go-round, and that we much reach out and grab it and if we did not take it when it comes around for us, we would lose that opportunity, it would not happen again in our lifetime. I thought this was stupid. I thought at the time that he was speaking of human opportunities for success. I realize now, of course, that what he was referring to was that window of opportunity which is conjoined with Higher Mind and our openness at that point in our spiritual travels and that if we did not take it, it was because we were turning our back on who we really are. Reach out and receive your Destiny. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Always be ready for it comes as a thief in the night
