Q.M.I. Presents Derek Lamar's November 2005
Quote of the Day

November 30 Wednesday 2005
Actually, as the years roll by the once-simple process of memorization, varies from one actor to another. Some performers are famous for what are called their photographic memories. Jackie Gleason was a good example. He reportedly could memorize pages after giving them just a brief period of study. For whatever reason, I've never been that good at memorizing lines, but the failing somehow seems to be plugged into my ability to ad-lib. Back in the 1950's, for instance, when I appeared in a Broadway play The Pink Elephant, I had no particular difficulty memorizing the lines, but every night the show ran, my mind suggested additional new dialogue. Fortunately all the ad libs got laughs, so the playwright didn't object. ~ Steve Allen (Murder In Hawaii)

Creativity: memorization versus spontaneity

If you cannot be at ease with yourself when alone, you will seek a relationship to cover up your unease. You can be sure that the unease will then reappear in some other form within the relationship, and you will probably hold your partner responsible for it. ~ Eckhart Tolle
Self-importance is man's greatest enemy. What weakens him is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of his fellow men. Self-importance requires that one spend most of one's life offended by something or someone. ~ Don Juan
Separateness is at the root of all comparisons

Mind is the Master Power that moulds and makes
And Man is Mind, and  evermore he takes
The Tool of thought, and shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills;
He thinks in secret and it comes to pass;
Environment is but his looking glass. ~ James Allen (As A Man Thinketh)
A looking glass really, is a mirror... reflections upon what you love and fear
November 27 ~ Sunday 2005
People often feel the need for direction but they do not want anyone to tell them what to do, how to do it or when to do it. It is natural to not what to follow someone else. That is our own self saying that it wants to maintain its own identity. The problem is most people do not know who they are or how to listen to their inner voice. Rather than seeking direction, people need to seek someone who will help them discover who they are, not who they think they should be or who anyone else thinks they should be. Much of finding out who you are is by peeling away the layers of who you really are not. When that is finished, YOU... will still be there. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Thinking and feeling are avenues which will help you discover Being

There was never a time when there was nothing. ~ Michio Kaku
(studied under Edward Teller, theorhetical physicist)
Beyond the ideas of right-doing and wrong-doing, there lies a field--- I'll meet you there. ~ Rumi
If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it IS, Infinite. ~William Blake
Think about it... doesn't matter what it is... just think about it. ~ D.L.

The personality is necessary in the course of our development as human beings, but is not the part of us that can bring fulfillment, wisdom, peace, love, strength, or any of the other qualities that comprise what Gurdjieff called “a person without quotation marks.” It is in distinguishing the real role and nature of the ego-personality from our Essential nature that... ...can be most helpful." - Riso and Hudson, The Enneagram Institute

The biggest shopping day of the year
...invest in something with lifelong meaning
November 24 ~ Thursday 2005
To be thankful is to look into the eyes of those you know and experience the little irritating human traits disappear allowing only Beingness to make itself know. That moment is called love. Cherish it. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Happy Thanksgiving!

November 23 ~ Wednesday 2005
To be thankful for the suffering we go through is a specialized realization which comes only when you reach a certain level. It is not to honor suffering but to give thanks for the information which allows one to discover what they need to in order that they might raise their consciousness. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar

Life even misunderstood is life... learn from it all!
November 22 ~ Tuesday 2005
Without self knowledge, without understanding the working and functions of his machine, man cannot be free, he cannot govern himself and he will always remain a slave. ~ G. I. Gurdjieff
To be or not to be is not the question, for you will always be, but to be aware, that is the question. To become consciousness conscious of consciousness is the eternal quest which fuels the fire to discover the self and to be free, not of doing, but of not doing. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Discover who you really are and you will fall in love
November 21 ~ Monday 2005
Little by little, through patience and repeated effort, the mind will become stilled in the Self. ~ Bhagavad Gita (c. BC 400-, Sanskrit Poem Incorporated Into the Mahabharata )
There are three things extremely hard: steel, a diamond, and to know one's self. ~ Benjamin Franklin
The perfecting of one's self is the fundamental base of all progress and all moral development. ~ Confucius (BC 551-479, Chinese Ethical Teacher, Philosopher )
The one self-knowledge worth having is to know one's own mind. ~ Francis H. Bradley (1846-1924, British Philosopher)
Once you know the Self... you will know everything else. ~ D.L.
November 20 ~ Sunday 2005
Discussions of energy, even amongst environmentalists who pride themselves in progressive thought, support alternative energy sources which parallel existing consciousness. The out and back, supply and demand of a limited resource mentality must be discarded. Reach for the stars and recognize that Mind is infinite and so is energy. Not only the idea of energy but energy itself. Where are the smokestacks of the industrial revolution which hold the universe in place as it rotates and moves in eternal ongoing expression. This is the energy we must lift ourselves up to. And to do this we must lift ourselves. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Energy is the ability to move matter... matter = energy
November 19 ~ Saturday 2005
Nothing brings one's self awareness closer to understanding what they are going through than to suddenly not be going through it anymore. To experience the realization of what one had been in denial of is a moment to behold. To come into conscious awareness of the energy expended on the ignoring of needless pain becomes a shocking recognition. Let go and live! ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
What... me worry!?!
November 18 ~ Friday 2005
Lower your tolerance to stress... There's no need to worry that you won't get it all done. When your mind is clear and peaceful and your stress level is reduced, you'll be more effective and you'll have more fun. As you lower your tolerance to stress, you will find that you'll have far less stress to handle, as well as creative ideas for handling the stress that is left over. ~ Richard Carlson, Ph.D. (Don't Sweat The Small Stuff... and it's all small stuff, 1997)
Don't Worry... Be Happy!
November 17 ~ Thursday 2005
Ouspensky's aim is to complete the Organon of Aristotle and the Novum organum of Bacon; this is why he entitles his book Tertium organum. The Organon of Aristotle, the translators tell us, "formulates the laws by which the subject thinks; the Novum organum the laws under which the object may be known; but the third canon of thought existed before the other two, and our ignorance of its laws does not justify their violation. The Tertium organum will henceforth guide and govern human thought. This assertion is more than a little temerarious, and, above all, it is more than a little vague. Let it be said at once that this too-ambitious program is not realized. The laws that govern thought cannot thus be changed from one day to another. The author, indeed, does not change them at all, but he shows that their government is relative, unstable and extremely restricted, and that it is very necessary that some change should be made in them. He instils into them an element which is more or less novel, a sort of scientific mysticism, which, by devious and difficult paths, often joins hands with religious mysticism, and, above all, with the mysticism of the East. Its conclusions are equally deceptive and contingent and are incapable of verification. ~ Maurice Maeterlinck (The Life of Space, 1928)
Infinity cannot be measured, only confirmed by realizing the illusion of finiteness
November 16 ~ Wednesday 2005
The rebuilding of a dream
Life unfolds its mystery unlike what it might have been
Work your way through the forest and listen to your soul
Hear what you really speak that reveals that you are whole
Life is not just a multitude of x's and zeros and yes's and no's
Life is what God can see amidst what you already know. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Breath in deep and take it all in... it's yours
November 15 ~ Tuesday 2005
Death and sleep are brothers in a metaphysical sense. The life action is never wholly withdrawn from all parts of a form, but in the experience named death there is such cessation of vitality that dissolution of the outer shell takes place. Jesus pronounced death to be sleep, and said that the sleeper could be awakened when the vitality was restored in divine order. ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)
Even before Abraham was, I AM
November 14 ~ Monday 2005
The total unreality of death must be portrayed to the deluded consciousness. The omnipresence and the omnipotence of life are beyond dispute, and there can be no question that death is a condition set up in human consciousness alone. God is not dead; He does not recognize or countenance death; neither does man, when freed from its delusion. Jesus said, "Follow me; and leave the dead to bury their own dead." ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)

Death is the blink of the eye and not the gaze of the mystic

November 13 ~ Sunday 2005
Death came into our world through the ignorant use of life, and death can be put out only by a wise use of life. Death is the result of a wrong concept of life, and death can be put out only by a wise use of life. Death is the result of a wrong concept of life and its use. In the beginning of man's experiments with the powers of Being, he had no concept of death. His consciousness was intact and his unfoldment in wisdom was gradual and orderly. ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)

Separateness begets here and there thus infinity becomes finiteness

November 12 ~ Saturday 2005
As we explore the mental realm, which is our causative thought, we find it filled with a legion of narrow beliefs, foolish, ignorant beliefs, selfish beliefs, and discordant beliefs. These we have lumped together and denominated "mortal mind," or "carnal mind." ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)

The mind of matter thinks in dualistic terms: separateness

November 11 ~ Friday 2005
The one who has made union with divine love through his inner consciousness, who lets it pour its healing currents into his soul and his body, is fortunate beyond all description. Instead of envying another, he desires to show others the great joy that may be theirs when they have opened the floodgates of their love nature. ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)

Love is the recognition of the Oneness of Reality

November 10 ~ Thursday 2005
Some of the most miraculous cures ever made have been where the healer simply saw perfection in the patient. He saw with the eye of Spirit that which really exists, and the shadow conformed to his seeing just to the extent of his realization of that spiritual reality. ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)

Knock and the door shall be opened to the Mind within you

November 9 ~ Wednesday 2005
"Hitch your wagon to a star," said Emerson. Your wagon is that which carries you along. Your I AM is that which carries you up or down, to heaven or to hell, according to the idea to which you have attached it. Then hitch it to a star and let it carry you to the broad expanse of heaven. ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)

I AM from a blade of grass to the farthest star

November 8 ~ Tuesday 2005
I AM is the polar star around which all the thoughts of man revolve. Even the little, narrow concept of the personal "I am" may be led out into the consciousness of the great and only I AM by filling its thought sphere with ideas of infinite wisdom, life and love. ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)

I AM One with the One that I AM

November 7 ~ Monday 2005
There is a royal road for every man -- a road in which he will be conscious of the dominion that is his by divine right. That road, Jesus said, Children of Israel from the Egyptian darkness of their ignorance by affirming in their ears the power of the I AM, so Jesus gives us a series of affirmations that will deliver us from the wilderness of ignorance. His command is "Keep my word." Then His words are set before us: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life." ~ Charles Fillmore (Talks On Truth, 1926)

Even before Abraham was, I AM

November 6 ~ Sunday 2005
We come now to a consideration of voluntary suffering --- suffering that we are willing to take on in order that our own lives can be fully realized and in order that the world may be fully realized. But these are acts of creation, and creation involves risk --- a painful dying to who we are now, a sacrifice of the known so that the unknown, uncertain new can come. This is why we do not change very often. Those who participate in change must participate in death, burial, and resurrection. ~Elizabeth O'Connor (Our Many Selves: A Handbook For Self-Discovery, 1971)

Of the many selves I employ in life these are not who I am, I am consciousness which is not fragmented but Whole

November 5 ~ Saturday 2005
In religious and ethical education it is well to remember that the youth will not take the ideal held up before him as abstractly "good" or "recommended," but rather the one which gives the most promise of aiding him toward the position in life he wishes to attain. Under pressure he may superficially and consciously accept the ideal held up by his educators, but the ideal that deeply influences him is that which is selected by processes in his unconscious. ~ Rollo May (The Art of Counseling, 1939)
The serpent crawls upon the ground unnoticed by our eyes
November 4 ~ Friday 2005
Peace is a state of consciousness which can only come when the forces which oppose each other within one's mind are reconciled and a realization arrives where one sees that the conflict that brought the situation about allowed an enlightened state to be realized. This could be Joseph standing before his brothers in the land of Egypt. This could be Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus. This could be Yeshua nailed upon a tree on a hill overlooking humanity. It could be the hatred of one's life which seemed to have gone wrong for so long only to at last realize that it was Mind unfolding and there they themselves were the MIND which is all there is where a quiet voice inside declares: "I AM that I AM". ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
We live in a divided soul... Oneness is inevitable
November 3 ~ Thursday 2005
Do not expose your soul to wind as the breeze of tomorrow flings you against the aggression of yesterday. Cast not your eyes down into the dark recesses of the rocks upon which the waves flail themselves helplessly. Do not remember what was forgotten when its memory becomes a ghost that haunts you in repetition day after day, night after night, reflecting unresolved moments which can never be loved in public but only despised in the twilight of one's nightmares. Slip away silently across the dusty sands only to be welcomed, not by loved ones or patriotic comrades, but by the cold shoulder of indecision and doubt. To you, my lonely companion I say goodbye, the self of my self which knew not God, and to whom is unknown by thee. I am free. ~ Richard Kula
No man is an island except in a sea of infinity
November 2 ~ Wednesday 2005
Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace. ~ Siddhartha Buddha
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell. ~ Siddhartha Buddha
If you know the enemy and know yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt; if you know Heaven and know Earth, you may make your victory complete. ~ Sun Tzu quotes (ca. 500 BC)
If you know the enemy and know yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt; if you know Heaven and know Earth, you may make your victory complete. ~ Sun Tzu quotes (ca. 500 BC)
All war is deception ~ Lao Tzu
How does one attempt diplomacy when they are attacked by rabid dogs. ~ Rama L. Kered
He who is afraid of war will never achieve peace. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice. ~ Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677)
The quickest way to end a war is to lose it. ~ George Orwell
We live in a divided country... war was inevitable
November 1 ~ Tuesday 2005
What is a victim? You are being victimized whenever you find yourself out of control of your life. The key word is CONTROL. If you are not pulling the strings, then you are being manipulated by someone or something else. You can be victimized in an endless number of ways.
A victim as described here is not "first of all" someone who is taken advantage of through criminal activity. You can be robbed or swindled in much more damaging ways when you give up your emotional and behavioral controls in the course of everyday life, through forces of habit.
Victims are first of all people who run their lives according to the dictates of others. They find themselves doing things they really would rather not do, or being manipulated into activities loaded with unnecessary personal sacrifice that breeds hidden resentment. To be victimized, as I use the word here, means to be governed and checked by forces outside yourself; and while these forces are unquestionably ubiquitous in our culture, YOU CAN RARELY BE VICTIMIZED UNLESS YOU ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN. Yes, people victimize themselves in numerous ways, throughout the everyday business of running their lives. ~ Dr. Wayne W. Dyer (Pulling Your Own Strings)
