Q.M.I. Presents Derek Lamar's
April Quote of the Day 2006

April 30 ~ Sunday 2006
The answer is simply that you have never focused your desire into one great dominating desire. You have a host of mild desires. You mildly wish you were rich, you wish you had a position of responsibility and influence, you wish you could travel at will. The wishes are so many and varied that they conflict with each other and you get nowhere in particular. You lack one intense desire, to the accomplishment of which you are willing to subordinate everything else. The time you put in, in aimless dreaming and wishing would accomplish marvels if it were concentrated on one definite object. If you have ever taken a magnifying glass and let the sun's rays play through it on some object, you know that as long as the rays were scattered they accomplished nothing. But focus them on one tiny spot and see how quickly they start something. It is the same way with your mind. You've got to concentrate on one idea at a time. ~ Robert Collier (The Book of Life, 1925)
Watch the light and concentrate on the allness of it
April 29 ~ Saturday 2006
If you have discovered that you are lost, what is the first thing that you do? You ask for directions. No, you don't look at a map because you don't have a map. You could ask someone who had a map. But then that would be to ask for directions. And that person knows where they are going otherwise why would you ask them. Do not ask someone for directions if you do not think that they have even seen the map. Once this is established you must follow them until you yourself know the way there. This is much like Fourth Way Instruction. You realize that you are asleep and you find someone who will help you wake up. You must also be a little bit awake to ask for that help. Always remember that. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Watch the lights and do not be afraid of the shadows
April 28 ~ Friday 2006
Exchanging the false concept for the true does not do away with or deny the body but redeems the body by destroying the misconception or "invention" of the carnal, natural man and reveals the true spiritual identity of body. ~ Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, Mary Baker Eddy's mentor (circa 1860 from the book: Phineas Parkhurst Quimby by Ann Ballew Hawkins, 1951)
The process of thinking is the one underlying cause in the life of man, and we became master of our life when we understand that man is spiritual, and bring our thought process under scientific control. ~ Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, Mary Baker Eddy's mentor (circa 1860 from the book: Phineas Parkhurst Quimby by Ann Ballew Hawkins, 1951)
Truth is that which is so and that which is not so is the "false concept" which returns to the nothingness from whence it came being that "it is not so, therefore it isn't" and in coming to a conclusion therefore that truth is all there is becomes the "thought process" which becomes the formula of the "scientific control". ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Watch the patterns in all things and see what is true and what is false
April 27 ~ Thursday 2006
What does it mean to try and control ideas. It is the ego of the individual mind based on duality which attempts to do this. Often this is even done for what appears to be the right reasons but then again often it is not. Often the control of others is because one has no control over themselves. This is the human dilemma which is an ongoing problem and it results in despotism and war. Nothing good can come of it. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Watch the patterns in all things and see the pattern of reality unfold in its infinite way
April 26 ~ Wednesday 2006
An ancient Chinese saying, which you may have already heard, goes like this.
Master... "I have arrived." Priest: "What took you so long?" Chela: "I was meditating and contemplating and working out the process within so I could walk on the water of that large river to get here to the monastery." Priest: "But you were supposed to be here three hours ago." Chela: "I know, Master, but I walked on water." Priest: "Idiot, there is a bridge right over there."
We, as ego motivated human beings have a tendency to think that if something is powerful or miraculous that it is more important and somehow raises our personal worth if we achieve that so we focus on that. Of course Jesus taught about learning to do small things well and big things would eventually come to you, as also did Gurdjieff who taught about "Fly Efforts" in the Fourth Way discipline. Immortality seems important and amazing so we gravitate toward that but if we do not learn all of the small things which lead up to that we will have accomplished nothing. Another line which comes to mind: "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?" ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Watch the patterns in all things and see the same truth in that which is big and small
April 25 ~ Tuesday 2006
Consciousness - Insight... The human mind is so constituted that it is forced to construct its experience within the framework of space and time. However, space and time are not fundamental dimensions of the underlying reality. They are fundamental dimensions of human consciousness. There is no sound in physical reality; pressure waves in the air but no sound. Sound exists only as an experience in the mind of the perceiver, whether that perceiver is a human being, animal or insect. Physical light has no mass and is not part of the material world. The same is true of consciousness; it is immaterial. Conclusion: Light is fundamental to the universe. The light of consciousness is likewise fundamental; without it, there would be no experience. ~ Orflin G. Champion
Watch The Patterns And See The Light ~ O.G.C.
April 24 ~ Monday 2006
Human knowledge is only limited when divine enlightenment is removed. This simplicity comes from its depth and we need to penetrate that depth to understand the relationship between essence and existence if we are to grasp what enlightenment truly represents to us. Plainly, the mind cannot rely on the senses. But what else is there? There can be found no fact that is true or existent, or any true proposition without there being a sufficient reason for its being so and not otherwise, although we cannot know these reasons in most cases. All we really need is a way to truly know ourselves and the sufficient reason in our minds that relies on some form of unknown or divine enlightenment that makes each and every one of us a part of the collective consciousness of the universe. ~ Orflin G. Champion

Why can we remember the tiniest detail that has happened to us, and not remember how many times we have told it to the same person. ~ Francois de la rochfoucauld (1613-1680)
One forgives to the degree that one loves. ~ Francois de la rochfoucauld (1613-1680)
When we cannot find contentment in ourselves it is useless to seek it elsewhere. ~ Francois de la rochfoucauld (1613-1680)
Life is an endless confrontation between what we want to believe and what we need to believe.
April 22 ~ Saturday 2006
I had already met Rat Boy at Carl’s apartment who ended up being Rat Girl. And then there was Lorna Bentley. I loved her name. I think she was a publicist in the new wave scene at the time. But she had this odd lisp. When a woman has a lisp you never quite know what they are trying to communicate. If she would say: “Hello… I’m Lorna Bentley”, it would sound like a screen test for an English movie. Carl also had a girlfriend named Leah who ended up dating his son Elijah. That’s not weird, that’s just bad taste. But more recently Carl met a guy named Karl who probably should have met Rat Boy because Karl, with a “K”, has an alter ego: “Miss Kookie” who sings “My Little Pink Dress” in a musical he/she has written to sympathize with any self-respecting cross-dresser. I have heard the tapes and actually she is quite good. All of this should have been filmed by Ed Wood. I mean, “Where Do You Meet These People?” ~ Dr. Derek Lamar (Mystical Journey, 2006)
The journey of life is an endless contradiction of normality
April 21 ~ Friday 2006
Finding the meaning within your life is merely the process of finding the meaning to life itself. Although that sounds like a bigger task it is not. Because that only requires finding out the meaning to meaning. Something means something if it evokes an inate reality which has been overlooked. Then suddenly you find meaning to it. It doesn't matter if it is a trip to the beach or dinner at a quiet restaurant. If you suddenly dismiss all of the anxiety of the day and quietly observe the unfoldment in the people around you, to enjoy their diversity, their special qualities, the way everything is choreographed like a film within your mind, then suddenly you discover meaning and now that meaning is within you. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
The journey of life plays itself out within our minds
April 20 ~ Thursday 2006
We are so accustomed to disguise ourselves to others, that in the end we become disguised to ourselves. ~ Francois de la rochfoucauld (1613-1680)
We are more interested in making others believe we are happy than in trying to be happy ourselves. ~ Francois de la rochfoucauld (1613-1680)
The only thing constant in life is change ~ Francois de la rochfoucauld (1613-1680)
The journey into ourselves allows us to stand tall
April 19 ~ Wednesday 2006
John Lennon once said: "Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans." This is so true. So much planning we do and yet the unexpected always turns out to be those moments which we learn from. Those time which we sometimes regret and other times often cherish. But if we take those times of regret and understand what we attracted into our lives at that time and view it through an objective and clear sighted perspective we will see Mind Unfolding and discovery the truth which is there waiting to be revealed to us. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
The journey into ourselves happens in multiple layers
April 18 ~ Tuesday 2006
Sometimes we are so busy we forget how important it is to know the meaning of life. That denial becomes an energy which eventually hits us like a fist in the dark. When that happens and we catch our breath we sit in the stillness of that moment feeling the pain of it all until it seems to trade places with nervousness. Suddenly we become anxious and feel that we don't know which way to turn or why we are suddenly even questioning it. But we know something is wrong and as we feel the absence of meaning to the rest of our life we wander for a time: sometimes days, weeks, months, or even years. If we are lucky, though that's not the right word, we stumble upon something, a lecture, a book, a movie with a serious searching threaded into the dialogue of some old metaphysical film but a lot goes on inside of us and we begin to consciously seek to know the answers to that burning question about life and the meaning of it. If we are lucky, thought that's not the right word, we stumble upon a Teacher and a Teaching and begin to learn about ourselves and about life. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
The journey into Eternity
April 17 ~ Monday 2006
Personal change can be analyzed too much sometimes. There is no one way or one formula. There is a formula actually but its applications are wide and varied. The important thing to understand is that simply changing to be something else that you have chosen is an illusion. The change which is necessary is to let go of the illusion and allow the real self to resume its place. Who you are is blocked and that includes the awareness of that self as well as the ability to express who you really are. If this is what you desire you are well on your way to achieving that goal. Good luck and Godspeed. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
The journey into the self changes one forever
April 16 ~ Sunday 2006
A. R. Orage ("Orage With Gurdjieff In America" by Louise Welch): "...something considerably more demanding is required than the mere realization of our petty shortcomings: our whole attitude toward ourselves would have to be tempered in the crucible.
To be tempered is to gain strength as a result of intense confrontation. The crucible is the container where this takes place. The word crucible sounds very similar to crucifix; this will help you remember its meaning because like the crucifix, this is where a death and a resurrection take place. This is where death occurs and life is revealed. With metal, it is brought to high temperatures and then cooled under controlled situations. First the metal's temperature is increased and then it is decreased. It is raised and then it is lowered just as we move to heaven and then we return to earth. Also as the mountain becomes "no mountain" and then returns to the MOUNTAIN but it is changed. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar (Gurdjieff, Fourth Way and Esoteric Teaching)
Kenneth Walker (A Study of Gurdjieff's Teaching): "To awake to oneself and to see the thousand petty identifications which enslave one is the first requirement; to die to this multitude of identifications and also to the many false I's created by the imagination is the second requirement; to be born again is the third, and, in the words of Gurdjieff's system being born again entails the growth of essence and the formation of a real and permanent 'I'."
As in psychoanalysis, often observing one's self in its bewildering expressions from a new perspective is enough of a shock to bring on the necessary death that an individual requires. Other times more work is needed to dislodge the beliefs that keep us ticking out of sequence. Whatever it is, one must step outside of themselves. This means outside the selves of which separateness reigns supreme to the 'I' self that is truly conscious, truly awaken as it observes, remembers, considers. To see is what happens first and to die is what takes place as what we see reveals itself to us as illusion and the illusion fades into nothingness. This is the death. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar (Gurdjieff, Fourth Way and Esoteric Teaching)
The journey into the shadows can shed light on one's self and then the dream dissolves
(All of the above excerpted from "Gurdjieff, Fourth Way and Esoteric Teaching" by Dr. Derek Lamar
April 15 ~ Saturday 2006
Dreams are another way of viewing the subconscious mind. It is an inner TV of symbolic expressions which still require interpretation which can be done by someone else, but also by the dreamer if they are sincere in knowing what is going on inside of them. There are books on dream symbology but often it is obscure and intellectually divisive. Like Occam's Razor, often it is the simplest of translations which reveal what is going on. Females often represent the unconscious or hidden ideas or sometimes creativity. Birds often symbolize Higher Thoughts. A tree is knowledge and leaves are ideas. Water is creativity, emotion and sometimes Spirit. What you dream may or may not have anything to do with "truth". It may simply be something you believe that you are going through. Dreams are not always prophetic but often what is buried within one's subconscious will manifest eventually in one's world. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
The journey into the shadows can shed light on one's self
April 14 ~ Friday 2006
If you remember that you are you, a beingness of reality which is inately important and by recognizing this within your self, your life will automatically be changed. There is an intention existing within you which is divine and that fire which burns must never be allowed to be snuffed out. And combined with this is the Destiny which beckons you as you remember yourself. Even if in the beginning you are totally ignorant of "who" you are, simply knowing that you are Being with a Destiny will keep your subconscious focused and direct you to the experiences you will need to unfold your spiritual life. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
The journey away from the self is dark and bleak
April 13 ~ Thursday 2006
To seek a spiritual path is to suddenly recognize that there is more to life and more to who you are than most people are willing to recognize. This is because the last thing a person is willing to do is to look at themselves. We find introspection painful because we must face what we already believe about ourselves which is ultimately not true. In addition we discover who we really are and the ability to return to ignorance is impossible. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
The Journey to the Self is a close as God and as far away as ourselves
April 12 ~ Wednesday 2006
According to physics, matter is made up of an aggregation of distinct minute particles called atoms.... Until recently these atoms were supposed to be the ultimate theory regarding matter. We ourselves --- and all the material world around us --- were supposed to consist of these infinitesimal particles of matter, so small that they could not be seen or weighed or smelled or touched individually --- but still particles of matter and indestructible. Now, however, these atoms have been further analyzed, and physics tells us that they are not indestructible at all --- that they are mere positive and negative buttons of force or energy called electrons, without hardness, without density, without solidity, without even positive actuality. In short, they are vortices in the ether --- whirling bits of energy --- dynamic, never static, pulsating with life, but the life is spiritual! As one eminent British scientist put it --- "Science now explains matter by explaining it away!" ~ Robert Collier (The Book of Life, Vol. II, 1925)
Matter is thought perceived in a physical form
April 11 ~ Tuesday 2006
There are all kinds of needs to be met today. But the need of teachers to meet spiritual and mental needs should not be ignored. Nor should it be put aside with the suggestion that if the teacher "knows so much" he should demonstrate the ways and means. A teacher's business is to be the outgoing of the Divine Will in service and to be confronted with the dire needs of people. The teacher must, also, look with eyes of sympathy and love upon the heartaches of people. While he knows there are service organizations serving man's environmental needs, he must strive to meet the needs of the spiritual and mental planes. ~ Thane of Hawaii (Not So Secret Doctrine, 1971)
Our planet is currently witnessing the thrust of a new energy which is radically transforming all traditional codes of behavior, conventional laws, social institutions, religions, and "established" society. This new "force" --- the energy of ascending consciousness --- is responsible for the irritability, hostility, and unconventional behavior present throughout the earth today. Traditional "human" society with its materialistic goals and "ordinary" man with his ego-centered lifestyle have suddenly become obsolete. This fantastic shift of values and lifestyles heralds the emergence of a new, more creative society and a totally new kind of individual. ~ Dr. Douglas Galias, D.C., H.W., M. (Institute of Advanced Thinking, 1972)
Mind is the process of expressing the Self
April 10 ~ Monday 2006
In discussing David Bohm’s  idea of the holomovement: “Although I had trouble with the language of enfolding, exfolding, explicate, and implicate, I knew what these concepts meant from my own experience and the work I was doing with others. I knew that each of us reflects the all, and the all is each of us; individuals reflect the society, and society reflects the individuals. We are the same, and all of us reflect and participate in what we have called God; that God is a process. When people are recovering from the addictions that serve to remove them from the holomovement, and they begin to operate out of their Living Process, they return to their normal state, which is to again be part of the holomovement and one with what we call God.” ~ Anne Wilson Schaef (Beyond Therapy, Beyond Science)
Mind is the infinite process of knowing the Self
April 9 ~ Sunday 2006
When Jesus says: "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also", (Matthew 6:19-21) we hear preachers and theologians expound on the evils of the world and how we must have faith in heaven and to work for God. But something gets lost in the translation and the esoteric formula which reveals the principle of God gets twisted and distorted. To "lay up for yourselves on earth" is to "have faith in error" or to actually have created a belief system which is based on duality which represents "human consciousness." However to "lay up treasure in heaven" is to realize the Truth of Reality and the Oneness of MIND and to "store up" meaning KNOWING the principle whereby the Infinity of Truth and the Infinite Value of MIND is accessible and able to be made manifest in one's life because the MIND is ONE and all is here and now. This is the discovery of this Teaching. It is not about a Sunday School heaven but about Consciousness and the knowing of the MIND of God because there is no other MIND in Reality. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
And in the end the love you make is equal to the Infinity of that which is YOU
April 8 ~ Saturday 2006
Consciousness is ever present Awareness. It is always complete NOW. Conscious Intelligence -- all Knowledge -- is always present and complete as the ONLY Mind in existence. Conscious Intelligence does not have to think in order to know. (Does God haveto think or to reason in order to be all Knowledge?) Conscious Mind does not have to reason, and wait, in order to arrive at a conclusion. On the contrary, conscious living Intelligence always knows that which is necessary to know, right here, right now. Always we exist for the fulfillment of the infinite purpose. And conscious living intelligence -- the Mind we are -- is constantly aware of whatever has to be known for the fulfillment of any purpose whatever. ~ Marie S. Watts (The Ultimate Awareness: An Eternal Constant, 1968)
And the Truth is more unbelievable than fiction
April 7 ~ Friday 2006
There is but One Life, and that Life is God; because that One Life (which is your life) is God, IT IS PERFECT. Hence you are alive with the life of God! If the life that you are, is God; then, in reality, you are perfect, and in Truth you have no disease. It is a belief in the human mind, out-pictured on the screen, your body. Change the belief to the Truth of your being, and the picture fades off the screen to be replaced by the perfect picture. ~ Frances Wade Gott (The Science of Being, 1923)
And the Truth is more unbelievable than fiction
April 6 ~ Thursday 2006
Be very still! I, the Lord your God, it is who is directing you. My Hand is leading you day by day, out of old tried paths, over on and up into new and higher realms. And now you are learning to recognize Me; are learning to know that we really walk and talk and work together. It is revealed to you daily how every thought is pregnant with My Divine Ideas. I AM IDEA. And it is as you recognize these ideas as the Truth within you, that you are then under the pure guidance of that same Presence. But you see that first you must recognize Me. ~ Eva Bell Werber (Quiet Talks with the Master, 1936)
And know always that there is only One Mind
April 5 ~ Wednesday 2006
You are the channel I would use to create new forms and new conditions. Now you see and know and understand that when you open your mind, when you use it to form and to plant seed, My Purpose is being fulfilled. Do not feel, My child, that you are beseeching or asking alms when you form these mental-desire pictures, for it is not so. I it is, at the center of your being, pushing forth for expression into the outer planes. I it is who desire these things made manifest. And so as that is true, it is well pleasing in my sight that you should plant these seeds for highest good, both in your life and the lives of those you love, thereby bringing forth the golden harvest which I could bring forth in no other way. Thus we work together, thus are we ONE indeed, and the great work of My Creative Process is continued through you, even as I desire. ~ Eva Bell Werber (Quiet Talks with the Master, 1936)
And I speak through you in the deepest moments of stillness
April 4 ~ Tuesday 2006
What exactly does Karma mean? Many people believe that Karma is like debt. Rather than a plus in your spiritual account Karma is seen like a minus in your account. And you owe a price to be paid by doing good to make up for the bad you have done. It is interpreted very dualistically. But that is based on Western good and bad, righteousness and evil, blessing versus curse sort of thing. Actually all Karma really means, for you to understand and be able to deal with it as a concept, is that your state of consciousness is clear about "Truth" or variations less than, thus obscured or creating a manifestation of illusion based on not thinking clearly thus not seeing clearly. And so by doing your own "Work" to clear up your consciousness, you are dealing with Karma. You are dealing with that part of you which needs to be cleared up. We all "get back what we put out" but that has nothing to do with reward and punishment. We are not punished if "we do bad" because there is no "bad" in that sense. But there is a "missing of the mark" (sin) which brings us what we already believe in. So, as in prayer, we always get what we want, but we do not always know what it is that we believe that we want subconsciously. When things are not unfolding for us in our lives the way we wish they would be, we must begin to acknowledge that it is our consciousness and we must find the pattern of thinking which is missing the mark in order that our consciousness is changed and the unfoldment will change as well. We do not change our world but we change our consciousness of it. In this way we are dealing with Karma. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Think straight and stand in the light of who you really are.
April 3 ~ Monday 2006
The healer does not try to heal the sick patient, he knows that there never has been any other man in Truth than the one created in the image and likeness of his Creator and who always has been sinless, whole, pure, and perfect. When the patient agrees, through faith, with the inspired consciousness of the practitioner, the healing is instantaneous. ~ Blanche Marie Peters (Mind Remakes Your World edited by Ernest Holmes)
Be whole, complete and perfect... be yourself.
April 2 ~ Sunday 2006
The truth is, the world is very much like the story about the Matrix. Mankind is "asleep" and very much in a psychological coma, of sorts, and if people were to wake up, in the real spiritual sense, which also is literally the same reality which we call reality but do not perceive it as it really is, way beyond ultra-violet light, but to wake up fully, as in an enlightened state, they would find they were in an entirely new world. In this world one is beyond the "control" of the "powers that be" because they are disturbed individuals whom are stuck in ego-based phylogenetic fear/survival dynamics of narcissistic fantasies as they play god rather than being God. As long as we choose NOT to be in control of our "world", our awareness of ourselves and all that it produces, then someone else will be in control. Wake up and follow your own Light. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
Be Your Self and Live!
April 1 ~ Saturday 2006
Without self knowledge, without understanding the working and functions of his machine, man cannot be free, he cannot govern himself and he will always remain a slave. ~ G. I. Gurdjieff

Those who have not shown anything during their responsible life will have nothing to reap in the future. ~ G. I. Gurdjieff

A man can only attain knowledge with the help of those who possess it. This must be understood from the very beginning. One must learn from him who knows.

If you desire to know, you must admit that you do not know
March 31 ~ Friday 2006
And the more you become aware of the unknown self - if you become aware of it - the more you realize that it is inseparably connected with everything else that is. ~ Alan Watts

So to describe myself in a scientific way, I must also describe my surroundings, which is a clumsy way getting around to the realization that you are the entire universe. ~ Alan Watts

So what I think we could aim for in the way of human civilization and culture would be a system in which we are all highly aware of our existing interconnection and unity with the whole domain of nature, and therefore do not have to go to all sorts of wild extremes to find that union. ~ Alan Watts
When the student is ready, the Teaching appears
March 30 ~ Thursday 2006
Have you ever sat very quietly with closed eyes and watched the movement of your own thinking? Have you watched your mind working—or rather, has your mind watched itself in operation, just to see what your thoughts are, what your feelings are, how you look at the trees, at the flowers, at the birds, at people, how you respond to a suggestion or react to a new idea? Have you ever done this? ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti (Think On These Things
To observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence. ~ J.K.

You don't know me, but you don't like me
You say you care less how I feel
But how many of you that sit and judge me
Have ever walked the streets of Bakersfield?

I came here looking for something
I couldn't find anywhere else
Hey, I'm not trying to be nobody
Just want a chance to be myself ~ Dwight Yoakam (Streets of Bakersfield)

Streets that I walk on depress me
Ones that were happy when I was with you
Still with all the friends I know
And with all the things I do
It’s so hard being here without you
Being here without you. ~ Gene Clark (Here Without You by The Byrds)

At some point in one's journey they must decide that nothing really matters but their unfoldment and that they no longer are allowed the "luxury" of entertaining nostalgia. For the most part nostalgia is a reflection through fantasy and not through being awake. It is a looking into the past to escape the stress of the day rather than an observation of what one's role was in the past. I have engaged in keeping up with people as a "human hobby" but now I must dedicate myself to the job at hand: the unfoldment of Mind as I understand it and as I AM. Even in this moment I do not speak to you but to my own soul. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
To remember is to be awake and to know all things
March 27 ~ Monday 2006
And Buck Owens was the answer to this music trivia question: What country star had a hit record that was later done by the Beatles? "Those guys were phenomenal," Owens once said. Ringo Starr recorded "Act Naturally" twice, singing lead on the Beatles' 1965 version and recording it as a duet with Owens in 1989. In addition to music, Owens had a highly visible TV career as co-host of "Hee Haw" from 1969 to 1986. With guitarist Roy Clark, he led viewers through a potpourri of country music and hayseed humor. ~ CBS News
The first time I saw Buck Owens was on Cal's Corral on Los Angeles TV when I was a kid. Years later I was working at Dot Records when Roy Clark's first hit single made the charts, "Yesterday When I Was Young", so it was the perfect segue that 17 years later I would meet Buck in front of the old Buck Owens Studios on North Chester Avenue just as Hee Haw was ending and my life in Bakersfield was beginning. Not long after that I would hire Johnny Owen's girlfriend to work for me in a competitive paper to the Kern Shopper. Later she would publish me in the Blackboard. Buck Owens used to perform in the original Blackboard where the paper got its name. Life is full of twists and turns. Now both of my parents are buried in front of Buck's mausoleum at Green Lawn in Southwest Bakersfield. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
The first country act I ever saw was Buck Owens, on a TV show called Cal's Corral that a local car dealer sponsored." ~ Jeff Hanna of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

March 26 ~ Sunday 2006
They're gonna put me in the movies
They're gonna make a big star out of me
We'll make a film about a man that's sad and lonely
And all I gotta do is act naturally. ~ Buck Owens (Alvis Edgar Owens)

Everything else can wait, but your search for God cannot wait. ~ Paramahansa Yogananda

How does one know he or she has found God? Surely not by using that path to avoid themselves. For the path to knowing God is a journey which takes one to the door of themselves. This doorway leads one to face themselves as they believe themselves to be, to face themselves as they believe themselves not to be but are, and to finally see themselves as they really are. This finally sojourn is where Oneness with God becomes known. It is not an easy journey but it is preferable to the confusion and chaos of a life of illusion and denial. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar
