What is a victim? You are being victimized whenever you find yourself out of control of your life. The key word is CONTROL. If you are not pulling the strings, then you are being manipulated by someone or something else. You can be victimized in an endless number of ways.
A victim as described here is not "first of all" someone who is taken advantage of through criminal activity. You can be robbed or swindled in much more damaging ways when you give up your emotional and behavioral controls in the course of everyday life, through forces of habit.
Victims are first of all people who run their lives according to the dictates of others. They find themselves doing things they really would rather not do, or being manipulated into activities loaded with unnecessary personal sacrifice that breeds hidden resentment. To be victimized, as I use the word here, means to be governed and checked by forces outside yourself; and while these forces are unquestionably ubiquitous in our culture, YOU CAN RARELY BE VICTIMIZED UNLESS YOU ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN. Yes, people victimize themselves in numerous ways, throughout the everyday business of running their lives. ~ Dr. Wayne W. Dyer PULLING YOUR OWN STRINGS (Dynamic Tehcniuqes For Dealing With Other People And Mastering Your Own Life, 1977)

There is a Universal Mind, Spirit, Intelligence that is the origin of everything. It is First Cause. It is God. This Universal Life and Energy finds an outlet in and through all that is energized and through everything that lives. There is One Life back of everything that lives. There is One Energy back of all that is energized. This Energy is in everything. There is One Spirit back of all expression. That is the meaning of that mystical saying: "In Him we live, and move, and have our being." (Acts 17:28) ~ Ernest Holmes (Religious Science, 1932
All is One and One is All
Thoughts are things, so we find that different kinds of thoughts become different kinds of things. Thought is always creative; it must always create after its own type. It must always give form to something, and the something to which it gives form is not a thing of itself, because the thought that creates the form is a product of the thinker. The thinker comes first, then the thought, and then the form. ~ Ernest Holmes (Thoughts Are Things, 1967

Spirituality is natural goodness. God is not a person; God is a Presence personified in us. Spirituality is not a thing; It is the atmosphere of God's Presence, goodness, truth and beauty. Religion is a life, a living. If we could forget that philosophy is profound, that religion is spiritual and life serious -- all of which may be true -- but if we could forget all these things, and approach Reality as normally as we go about our daily affairs, we would be better off. ~ Ernest Holmes (The Science of Mind, 1938)
Science is the process of knowing the Self

You want to feel important don't you? Everyone wants to make a name for themselves or at least thought to be of some worth. No one wants to be thought worthless... yet we do not teach people to recognize their own worth and what they can do to become valuable. You must seek yourself, not who you want to be or who you think others need you to be but who you really are. In doing this you will open doors for millions of others who didn't quite have the strength that you do because they never even knew. The selfish act of seeking oneself is the most selfless act one can do. Because in doing this, you must also give yourself up completely: and this is love." ~ Rama L. Kered

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. ~ Matthew 5:15
I have lost more than a friend, I have lost an inspiration. She would rather light candles than curse the darkness and her glow has warmed the world. ~ Adlai Stevenson (in memory of Eleanor Roosevelt)
There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. ~ Edith Wharton
My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but, ah, my foes, and, oh, my friends -- it gives a lovely light. ~ Edna St. Vincent Millay
~ (all of the above from Hermes by Brahma Vach)
I want to see the light inside but something's in the way. I step forward and I step back but nothing comes into play. No matter which way I turn, no matter how hard I fight. I can see the shadow and it's me that blocks the light. ~ Derek Lamar

I feel I am standing at the edge of my own evolution, and I've realized that the psycho-spiritual evolution of the individual is going much faster than the societal transformation is able to keep up. Though we have many wonderful initiatives in terms of transforming society as a whole, it's still quite embryonic. However, the individuals doing the projects are themselves evolving quite rapidly; in fact, I often see the projects themselves as workshops for the development of the person. They are pro-jections of the deep Self that wants to come into form to co-create a world in which that Self can feel at home. What are really growing fastest are not the projects we're doing but the persons doing them. The projects will take years to manifest, but the persons doing the projects are already models of the evolving human. ~ Barbara Marx Hubbard (President of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution)

The conceiver always precedes his conceptions. Therefore man, himself, precedes his idea of "mortal mind," or "the human mind," does he not? "When that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away." (1 Cor. 13:10) Revelation of Truth is continually coming to man on earth. It was surely a great "discovery," or revelation, to see that God is not responsible for any sickness, trouble or disaster on the face of this earth. This was truly a marvelous insight. It was also a revelation to discern that "Mortal mind is a solecism in language." (Science and Health) and that "this so-called mind is a myth." (S & H) Therefore, to be true to this revelation we must give up the theory that we can "translate" or "educate" or "spiritualize" a "myth"! We can, however, nay, we must, educate and spirtualize our sense of things, and change our own sense from the "childish" belief in mortal mind to the ripened understanding, that there is no mind but God. ~ Lillian DeWaters (True Identification)

Sheikh Sultan Bahu (1628 - 1691 AD) is known by the title of Sultan-ul-Arifin (king of the Gnostics) and belonged to the Qadiri Order of Sufis. Bahu was born in the Soon Valley. He wrote in Persian and Punjabi, and is revered as Sufi poets of the Indo-Pak subcontinent of the highest order.

Those who have not realized God will wander,
homeless in this world, destitute in the next.
But watch the lovers dance with ecstasy,
as they merge into the oneness of God [Allah].
~ Sultan Bahu, translated by J.R. Puri and K.S. Khak

The river of oneness has surged,
quenching the thirst of the deserts and wastelands.
If you don't nurture God's love in your heart,
you will be dry and parched like those deserts.
~ Sultan Bahu, translated by J.R. Puri and K.S. Khak

The Lord is an ocean of oneness
in which lovers swim as they please, free of care.
In their own turn, they appear in the world
to dive deep into that ocean, to gather pearls.
Among the pearls is a gem --
unique in value, unmatched in lustre --
that shines like the moon.
We are all in the employ of the Lord, O Bahu;
let us pay homage to him through our prayers.

As the wave is one with the ocean --- never for one instant separated --- and rises and loses itself in the ocean, so man finds that by losing his life he finds it, and by saving his life he loses it. When you lose your little personal sense of life, you will find the One Life --- that which is Wonderful --- the life that is Won Now --- the heaven, here and now. ~ Walter C. Lanyon

I know that God is the only Power and the only Presence. I know that I AM the expression of God andthat all the Father hath is mine. I AM a divine, perfect, spiritual being, forever ONE with my Source. Turning from problems, I listen in the Silence for God's perfect answers. Turning from confusion, I accept the Peace that passeth all understanding. I let the perfect Life of God live through me. ~ Jack Addington (The Secret of Healing, 1973)
If there is no Beingness which is Real..., then how could anything exist?
Thursday ~ August 18 ~ 2010
If there is hope, or a fervent belief, Krishnamurti is right in saying that it should be challenged and tested with the question, "Why do you want to believe that? Is it because you are afraid of dying, of coming to an end? Is this identification with the cosmic Self the last desperate resort of your ego to continue its game?" Indeed, if this Supreme Identity is, for me, a belief to which I am clinging, I am in total self-contradiction. Not only is there no sense in clinging to what I am; the very act of clinging also implies that I do not really know that I am it! Such belief is merely doubt dressed up. The final meaning of negative theology, of knowing God by unknowing, of the abandonment of idols both sensible and conceptual, is that ultimate faith is not in or upon anything at all. It is complete letting go. ~ Alan Watts (Beyond Theology / The Gospel According To Zen)

The person who has a feeling of prosperity has a feeling that life is working with him and not against him. The prosperity state of mind can produce not only an abundance of wealth but health and right action as well. When one arrives at an awareness of prosperity it flows over into every part of that person's experience so that he or she is prosperous over-all. One becomes prosperous in business, in family relationships, in romantic relationships and, generally, good health is part of the package. Money is not the only evidence of prosperity thinking but it surely is one of the many by-products of a prosperity state of mind. ~ Jack and Cornelia Addington (All About Prosperity And How You Can Prosper, 1984)

I have spent a great deal of time studying to improve my knowledge and awareness in all spiritual areas," he says, "my attention being directed towards the works of Gurdjieff, Ouspensky, the Existentialist philosophers, and Greek, Tibetan and Indian mystics. Whatever I read in this line does not surprise me. I feel that I already know what is written, and that the information is there as an affirmation only. I guess it's the difference between knowingness and knowledge. ~ David Hutton (Threshold To Tomorrow by Ruth Montgomery)
Who are we when we are NOT ourselves?

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Halleluja
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah ~ Leonard Cohen (partial lyrics from Hallelujah)

To those who may long to reach the way of Spirit, yet do not clearly discern it, the Teacher repeats: You can clearly understand that the Thinker must be greater than his thought, that the Manifester must be higher than his manifestation; thus you are above thoughts of any kind, above trouble, above disease, above death, above the pairs of opposites. The "I" or "Me" of the self is the real self, the Christ self --- pure, imperishable Spirit. ~ Lillian DeWaters (The Finished Kingdom: A Study of The Absolute, 1924)

When a person is running away from something then ultimately run right into whatever it was. Why? Is this some sort of Cosmic punishment? No. Simply we "get back what we put out" and the emphasis on what we fear is so intense, that it draws that negativity right into our path because that is the focus of our subconscious and the fear we try to keep buried there. One must rid themselves of fear and negativity otherwise there clearly will be "now where to hide." ~ Dr. Derek Lamar (Q.M.I.)

REALIZATION
Begin with the words of Truth that you have learned, and which perhaps you have as yet only comprehended with the intellect. You must be willing to take the very first light you receive and use it faithfully, earnestly, to help both yourself and others. Sometimes you will be almost overcome by questions and doubts arising in your own mind when you are looking in vain for results. But you must with effort pass the place of doubt; and some day, in the fullness of God's time, while you are using the words of Truth, they will suddenly be illumined and become to you the living word with you.... You will no longer dwell in darkness, for the light will be within your own heart; and the word will be made flesh to you; that is, you will be conscious of a new and more divine life in your body, and a new and more divine love for all people, a new and more divine power to accomplish. ~ H. In our seeking and searching for God, we are suffering from the same kind of insanity, because we have never left our Father's house. When we search for the Presence and the Power of God to dissolve our discords and inharmonies, we are in a state of humanhood as unnatural as the fish seeking the ocean! As long as we seek for a God or a Truth or a treatment or a prayer to relieve us of our problems, just that long will our problems remain with us. We will continue to be overwhelmed with the discords and inharmonies of this world until we achieve this spiritual discernment: 'I am already in the secret place of the Most High. I am living and moving and having my being in God, and I am about my Father's business. ~ Joel Goldsmith

THE LOVER AND THE BELOVED
Never, in sooth, does the lover seek without being sought by his beloved. When the lightning of love has shot into this heart, know that there is love in that heart. When love of God waxes in thy heart, beyond any doubt God hath love for thee. No sound of clapping comes from one hand without the other hand. Divine Wisdom is destiny and decree made us lovers of one another. Because of that fore-ordainment every part of the world is paired with its mate. In the view of the wise, Heaven is man and Earth woman. Earth fosters what Heaven lets fall. When Earth lacks heat, Heaven sends it; when she has lost her freshness and moisture, Heaven restores it. Heaven goes on his rounds, like a husband foraging for the wife's sake; And Earth is busy with housewiferies: she attends to births and suckling that which she bears. Regard Earth and Heaven as endowed with intelligence, since they do the work of intelligent beings. Unless these twain taste pleasure from one another, why are they creeping together like sweethearts? Without the earth, how should flower and tree blossom? What, then, would Heaven's water and heat produce? As God put desire in man and woman to the end that the world should be preserved by their union, So hath He implanted in every part of existence the desire for another part. Day and Night are enemies outwardly; yet both serve one purpose, Each in love with the other for the sake of perfecting their mutual work. Without Night, the nature of Man would receive no income, so there would be nothing for Day to spend. ~ Rumi
In the night you read the stars... in the day you read the writing on the wall...

The unlimited power of the Divine Mind will work in you when you have overcome this mortal or relative thinking and given yourself over to the absolute. This is not a dificult thing to do, but it is a thing which requires diligent watching. Idle words or thots are little seeds which will develop into weeds that must be garnered or rooted up sooner or later.Accummulated wrong thinking sometimes seems like a mountain before us as we attempt to say, "I am abundantly supplied with everything I need," but just the same a large mountain can finally be moved away with a shovel if there is no other way of doing it. The cleansing process, however, is not as slow as our illustration, for once we have taken our stand and realize that we are right now in possession of infinite substance, recognizing that there is nothing but an erroneous belief to handle, we will soon see great masses of wrong thinking give away and float down stream, and the clear calm waters of Truth being revealed to us. ~ Walter C. Lanyon (Prosperity)

Faith is a state of openness or trust. To have faith is like when you trust yourself to the water. You don't grab hold of the water when you swim, because if you do you will become stiff and tight in the water, and sink. You have to relax, and the attitude of faith is the very opposite of clinging, and holding on. In other words, a person who is fanatic in matters of religion, and clings to certain ideas about the nature of God and the universe becomes a person who has no faith at all. Instead they are holding tight. But the attitude of faith is to let go, and become open to truth, whatever it might turn out to be. ~ Alan Watts (1915-1973)

Deep in the heart of man lies buried this same secret --- he feels a God-like something imaging itself in his thought --- he thinks also of lofty hills and blue skies, and he dreams of untrammeled walks through green pastures and beside still waters --- but it, too, is buried deep in an earth of material reasoning and thinking, and over this is a thousand and one mortal laws and human opinions which even freeze the ground tighter about him. And he, too, tells his secret to no one --- because it is so sacred --- and also because he has no words to express it --- and then, too, because no one would understand it. ~ Walter C. Lanyon (Embers, 1918)
Was it not the renewing of the mind by contemplation of the real --- early in the day before the contemplation of the unreal had darkened the thought so that they could not see the small, white thing which lay on the ground? (Manna) ~ Walter C. Lanyon (Embers, 1918)
What a happy translation follows, for God has relieved you of the burden of passing judgment on anything --- even you shall not condemn yourself. ~ Walter C. Lanyon (Embers, 1918)

Teilhard spoke of a "biological change of state" terminating in thought, a comparatively recent development in evolution, and affecting life itself in its "organic totality" on the entire planet. I think, too, of Jung whose "unconscious contents" were always in a process of new combinations and syntheses. Bohm's "natural law" is of a "nature" shot through and through with the mind of man. Thinking is the most important of all the "necessary relations" that must be satisfied. Singer mused that the philosophical method might have a share in determining the nature of change. An energetic focus of thought weighs heavily as a determinant among the contingencies in any context. To focus is too narrow to be specific, to agree on a single aspect in an infinitely contingent possibility. The wider the agreement, the wider the context influenced. In order to achieve focussed agreement there must be a nucleus of ideas around which the participants---and possibilities---can organize. The ideas come first. The mythos leads the logos. ~ Joseph Chilton Pearce (The Crack in the Cosmic Egg: Challenging Constructs of Mind and Reality, 1971)

At this point in the on-going one must learn the lesson of Perseverance. For it does not mean arriving, but continuing to press forward, just as the tree, when it first puts its tiny head out of the ground is just as much of a success as in the day of its spreading branches; just as much of a Success in the day of its budding as in the hour of its fruiting. So Perseverance means pressing on when the goal is in sight and pressing on when the goal is not in sight. ~ Frances Wade Gott (Science of Being, 1923)

Before you can do anything about ho you feel, you have to be able to observe or witness it. The moment you attempt to see what's going on inside of you, part of you separates off to make this observation. In philosophical terms, it's called "self-reflection"; in psychosynthesis terms, it's call "disidentification." G.I. Gurdjieff called it "self-observation," the Hindus and Buddhists called it "witnessing" and the Zen Buddhists, "mindfulness". In the last 25 years it has not been uncommon in psychotherapy circles, like Gestalt, to ask a client to "be aware" of a pattern. In Hakomi therapy recently developed by Ron Kurtz, mindfulness is emphasized. Certainly, whether we called it awareness, mindfulness, observation, or witnessing, disciplines of the East, West, and Middle East have employed it in some way to help the individual enhance personal freedom. ~ Stephen Wolinsky (Quantum Consciousness, 1993)

The reason that there is “truth” to the reflection approach is because the ultimate Absolute Reality is that there is ONE MIND.  This Mind is infinitely expressing itself out and back to itself. This establishes the reality on all levels since there really is only one level. It doesn’t matter what you believe or what confused illusory state of consciousness you are operating within, the truth of reality is still what is being expressed in back of time, space and change. If Mind is expressing itself out and back to itself then you are expressing yourself out and back to yourself because you are Mind. ~ Dr. Derek Lamar (Spiritual Psychology, 2006)

Today, we are in the midst of war between Reality and the abnormal powers of domination and destruction. Not only must we recognizes their cause, but we must direct our efforts toward a sane and workable way of life by letting our natural state as Natives of Eternity, rule supreme. The agreements for peaceful living must be foundationed on a proposition which is acceptable to all men. Of necessity, this point must be an abstract Truth: the fact that our Oneness is spiritual Reality. ~ Thane of Hawaii (Philosophy of Ontology, 1993)
