The emotional center becomes capable of real feeling only when a stable presence, relatively independent of the surrounding circumstances, has been developed. Often times I find those interested in the Fourth Way really do not understand what it means. They read the books and they memorize things said by various people and yet when it comes to really understanding what it means to do "The Work", they are bewildered. I am going to give an example of "doing the Work" and you can test it on your self. Pick something you feel you need to get done but just can't seem to get around to doing it. Do it. That's right. Pick that one thing and put it in your mental priority basket and see to it that it is done as soon as possible. Don't jeopardize your job or your marriage. Be practical, be pragmatic. But do this chore and observe your emotions which flutter up around you like a bevy of butterflies and account for them to deal with later. This would be a Fourth Way exercise. Teilhard spoke of a "biological change of state" terminating in thought, a comparatively recent development in evolution, and affecting life itself in its "organic totality" on the entire planet. I think, too, of Jung whose "unconscious contents" were always in a process of new combinations and syntheses. Bohm's "natural law" is of a "nature" shot through and through with the mind of man. Thinking is the most important of all the "necessary relations" that must be satisfied. Singer mused that the philosophical method might have a share in determining the nature of change. An energetic focus of thought weighs heavily as a determinant among the contingencies in any context. To focus is too narrow to be specific, to agree on a single aspect in an infinitely contingent possibility. The wider the agreement, the wider the context influenced. In order to achieve focussed agreement there must be a nucleus of ideas around which the participants---and possibilities---can organize. The ideas come first. based his portrayal of the apocalypse on his belief that God's love allowed for a personal apocalypse as part of the human experience. In the notes to the work, he claimed that "whenever any Individual Rejects Error & Embraces Truth a Last Judgment passes upon that Individual". This idea is connected to views of David Hartley of the "pure disinterested love of God", and appears in other works by Blake, including his Jerusalem. Also, Blake's Milton describes the process that an individual goes through during an apocalypse, which includes having to confront their errors and their flaws. There is no peace during the struggle, as it involves a direct interaction between contrary views that would eventually establish the new state.

Re-identification" is an ongoing process. Basically, I take a personal issue and work it through a process wherein I clarify my present identity as a "thing" which can have a problem. Once clarified, then I can give up this identity. Immediately thereafter, I re-identify myself as consciousness. This is a big step toward liberation. Consciousness is my True Self. As consciousness I am a non-physical mind-substance, whole, complete, ever present, undivided, changeless, dimensionless.
The process of re-identification is a great transformational pathway available to anyone and everyone. Consciousness is who you are back and behind all the roles you play. It is a gracious presence within you. It provides every experience in your life. If your consciousness is filled with fear because you have been taught to fear and to believe in the worst, then you will see fearful things around you.
As consciousness I am connected to all people, even animals and plants. Consciousness is something all indigenous people have understood for tens of thousands of years and more, though they used different words to talk about it. I propose that true liberation is not about destroying evil out there. It is about confronting and re-identifying evil within us. Ontology gives us a way to do this without blaming ourselves. The link is Consciousness. Find that key within yourself. You are Consciousness. I grabbed the first book on the shelf which seemed to be slightly askew. I flipped the pages and sure enough, an envelope dropped out. I looked into the envelope and on a piece of paper were the words "Roswell", "aliens" and "President Truman." I really didn't understand the significance so I began reading the section of the book to see if there was any connection between the book and the envelope hidden between its pages. I realized it was a book on human anatomy and someone had made notes on one of the illustrations showing the human body. They marked the hands as having six fingers instead of five. It was then I knew I had something. I slipped the book with the envelope into the inside pocket of my jacket and left the room as quickly as possible. ~ James Atherton (Among Us, 1950)

And by these names it is called as toward men: but that which it is in truth, as conceived of in itself and as spoken of unto you, it is the marking-off of all things, and the firm uplifting of things fixed out of things unstable, and the harmony of wisdom, and indeed wisdom in harmony.” Remember the words of “uplifting of things fixed out of things unstable” as it relates to “On earth as it is in heaven” or “As Above, so below” and also the cross as it relates the letting go of the earth realm and a rising up in the realization of the ONE REALITY. Farther along Jesus says: “This cross, then, is that which fixed all things apart, joined all things unto itself by the Word, and separate off the things that are from those that are below, and then also, being one, made all flow forth compacted all into ONE.” Again, the realization of ONENESS amidst the illusion of separateness and the discord of chaos which operates only out of belief and delusion. The Master continues: “But this is not the cross of wood which thou wilt see when thou goest down hence: neither am I he that is on the cross, whom now thou seest not, but only hearest his voice. I was reckoned to be that which I am not, not being what I was unto many others: but they will say of me something else which is vile and not worthy of me.” Clearly his message, so poignant and lucid: “...when the human nature is taken up, and the race which draweth near unto me and obeyeth my voice, he that now heareth me shall be united therewith, and shall no more be that which now he is, but above them, as I also now am. For so long as thou callest not thyself mine, I am not that which I am: but if thou hear me, thou, hearing, shalt be as I AM, and I shall be that which I was, when I have thee as I AM with myself. For from me thou are that which I am.” And pay close attention to these words, for those of you on the Path, Jesus says: “Nothing, therefore, of the things which they will say of me have I suffered: nay, that suffering also which I showed unto thee and the rest in the dance, I will that it be called a mystery. For what thou art, thou seest, for I showed it thee; but what I AM I alone know, and no man else. Suffer me then to keep that which is mine, and that which is thine behold thou through me, and behold me in truth, that I AM, not what I said, but what thou art able to know, because thou art akin thereto.
