Q.M.I. Presents Derek Lamar's

December 1998

Quote of the Day

Thursday, December 31st

"I'll be your mirror, reflect what you are in case you don't know. I'll be the wind, the rain and the sunset when you think the night has seen your mind, then inside you're twisted and unkind. Let me stand to show that you are blind. Please put down your hands 'cuz I see you. I find it hard to believe you don't know the beauty that you are, but if you don't know, let me be your eyes to enter your darkness so you won't be afraid. When you think the night has seen your mind then inside you're twisted and unkind. Let me stand to show that you are blind. Please put down your hands 'cuz I see you." ~ Lou Reed (I'll Be Your Mirror sung by Nico with the Velvet Underground)

"When you get rid of selfishness, together with things and what pertains to them, and have transferred all to God, and united with Him, and abandoned all for Him in complete trust and love, then whatever your lot, whatever touches you, for better or worse, sour or sweet, none of it is yours but it is all God's, to whom you have left it." ~ Meister Eckhart (1260-1327) Sermons
"Keep God in remembrance until self is forgotten, that you may be lost in the Called, without distraction of caller and call." ~ Jalal-Ud-Din Rumi (1207-1273) The Diwan
"God in Heaven, let me really feel my nothingness, not in order to despair over it, but in order to feel the more powerfully the greateness of Thy goodness." ~ Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) Journals
"Prayer is nought but a rising desire of the heart into God by withdrawing of the heart from all earthly thoughts." ~ Walter Hilton (1340-1395) The Scale of Perfection
"The Kingdom of God is within you, yes, but only if we are prepared to let that powerful germ of eternal life grow, until it splits away and consumes this husk, our ego. Unless we, this person with his tightly bound triple self-love -- love of his physical appetites and comforts, of his possessions, of his place, rank, and recognition -- unless that hard and hardening nut is buried and rots and is eaten away by the new life's germ, there is no hope." ~ Gerald Heard (1889-1971) The Creed of Christ
"As one relinquishes their need for independence and accepts their true Divinity and says unto himself that I have no self but Thee the Kingdom of the ONE MIND opens to reveal the ONE HEART of LOVE that is SPIRIT." ~ Derek Lamar

      On My Way To Where
"the thought he'll leave bitterly burns and my despondence grows
i lost my blue buttons, he sent me blue buttons on my birthday
but my blue buttons came loose... ...loose ...loose ...lucy brown
...lucy in the sky ...luce ...lucent ...lucid ...lucidity ...lucifer
...light ...hang luce ...stay loose
...how did i get this way, i was, what was i going to say?
i was on, how did i get in here?
i was on my,
wasn't i here last year?
i was on my way... why have they locked me in?
i was on my way to... who is my next of kin?
  christ, won't i ever win?
i paid my airplane fare... i was on my way to where. . . ? " ~ Dory Previn (On My Way To Where?)

Questions continue.....

Monday, December 28th

"We never stop to wonder, till a person's gone. We never yearn to know him, till he's traveled on. When someone is around us, we never stop to ask: hey, what's behind your mirror, hey, who's behind your mask? When someone is around us, we don't know what we're seeing. We take a polaroid picture to find the human being. Sweet beautiful Jesus, on a painted cross, polystyrene body, with a superficial gloss. Were you short when you were fully grown? Did you like to walk on water, were you scared to be alone? I think perhaps tomorrow, I'll try to make a friend... to really get to know him, instead of just pretend. I'll ask him if his feet hurt, has he burdens to be shared. And if he doesn't walk away, I'll ask him if he's scared. And if he doesn't walk away, if his eyes don't turn to stone, I'll ask him if he's scared to be alone." ~ Dory Previn (Scared To Be Alone)

"The highest aim of life, then, is not the carrying on of political business for its own sake, but the worthy and noble employment of leisure, the periods in which we are our own masters. It has the advantage that it depends more purely on ourselves and our own internal resources than any other life of which we know, for it needs very little equipment with external goods as compared with any form of the life of action. It calls into play the very highest of our own capacities as intelligent beings, and for that very reason the active living of it is attended with the purest of all pleasures. In it, moreover, we enter at intervals and for a little while, so far as the conditions of our mundane existence allow, into the life which God enjoys through an unbroken eternity. Thus we reach the curious paradox that while the life of contemplation is said to be that of our truest self, it is also maintained that this highest and happiest life is one which we live, not in respect of being human, but in respect of having a divine something in us." ~ Aristotle

"It should be noted that this, as it reflects Truth, also reflects the law of nature in the understanding of the path of least resistance.... yet it seems that this spiritual path is frought with difficulties and filled with so much suffering... we must understand that if it were not because of our own resistance, this path would be easy and completely reflect the natural and harmonious expression of God. When we reach this plateau we truly will have discovered our own Divinity. Then again, we are obligated to confront our resistence as well in order that we may climb to the real plateau and not a false hill. It is better that we kill off our false selves than to be murdered by them." ~ Derek Lamar

The Long and Winding Road continues.....

Saturday, December 26th

"We are all already on a spiritual path. We do not get a choice in this. Being on a spiritual path simply means to most people that they are engaged in mystical change with the intent on revealing Higher Knowledge. In the Absolute sense from which all eminates... what is taking place is Mind knowing itself. The ongoingness is MIND expressing itself to itself. The levels of awareness that we have of this is our own waking up to this Reality. We are MIND experiencing itself being aware of itself.... waking up is the natural process of order and balance and as we unfold we continue to express the Truth that we already are. The degree of change which we experience is determined mostly by how much we are willing to undergo. For those people who are not on a path by most people's definitions, they too are finding themselves face to face with themselves and undergoing change as well. The only difference is those of us who consciously choose a path and entertain change are able to enjoy the process of change whereas those who are changing on the unconscious level are constantly finding themselves in forced situations which control them and make them go through experiences which are often painful. Not being conscious of this experience makes the ride bumpy. But when you take the controls yourself you are already on a Higher Level and this allows Truth to better have its way with you as it is US. And the US is the I AM of Consciousness knowing itself completely." ~ Derek Lamar

Merry Christmas ~ Mele Kalikimaka

"It is appropriate that we celebrate the Birth of Divinity in the Winter of our lives. It is clear that Jesus was not born at this time of year, and also December 25th was Rome's celebration of the Feast of the Sun God at a time when Christianity was becoming a new way to control the people and a smoother transition was needed.... yet the spirit of esoteric unfoldment was at foot in back of time, space and change and out of chaos does come order.... just as out of the cold barren lifeless winter springs forth new growth. Not just a leaf but a blossom. The explosion of the only Self which we could ever find within ourselves that we can depend on because it is real, it is us, it is Eternal. I am not speaking of a religious story but of the overpowering emergence of MIND issuing forth the harmony and perfection and power of TRUTH... sometimes represented by infinity, sometimes by spirit, sometimes by LOVE. Sometimes this is painful.... for we have to let go of the hurt we feel. We have to let go of the bitterness and pain and anger which fills the holes and crevices and cracks and grooves and eats away at our humanity leaving cavities which in turn become filled up with this infection. We must allow this poison to drain from our selves and our world in order to once again make room for Truth... to create a vacuum allowing the Reality of Spirit to once again regain its authority over us, in us, as US. This is the Birth of Divinity... this is the Birth of Christ in us. This is Christmas." ~ Derek Lamar

"We are the hollow men. We are the stuffed men leaning together, headpiece filled with straw. Alas! Shape without form, shade without colour, paralyzed force, gesture without motion." ~ T.S.Eliot (from The Hollow Men)
"...The human being is in the depths of himself basically alone, and there is no recourse from the necessity of making one's choices ultimately alone." ~ Rollo May
"...it is utter terror and lonliness that drive a man to address the void as Thou." ~ Edna St. Vincent Millay
"I am credulous about the destiny of man, and I believe more than I can ever prove of the future of the human race and the importance of illusions, the value of great expectations." ~ Carl Sandburg
"Man is dead." ~ Derek Lamar
"Owing to the belief in a fictitious personality and the abnormal conditions which it sets up, man comes to live more and more in forgetfulness of his being and of his real self. Moreover, signs and indications that he is unable to remember himself, unable to remember what is most worthwhile in himself, show up in thousands of ways, but man neither "sees" them nor "hears" them." ~ Jean Vaysse
"There was no place in the Inn.....no, not the Holiday Inn.... but what does it mean regarding the birth of a messiah that there was no place in the inn? Could the birth of one's divinity happen in the commonplace, the ordinary, the expected, the usual, the place where all the masses would go or the place where the wealthy would all be found proving or hoping to prove that they were worth something by the way they spent their money.... no.... a birth.... like a new idea... an idea whose time has come but an idea from on High.... an idea which is so pure must be untouched by the busy world of pretend where busy people attend to the nothingness of their daily lives.... it must come forth from an a secluded simple place which fosters the simple beginnings like a fragile bud as the intenseness pulsates in the background pushing and pulling to release the recognition of GOD. Truth is alive." ~ Derek Lamar
"What does it mean to discover that you always were and that you always will be?" ~ Derek Lamar

I AM MUSIC

"I AM MUSIC, most ancient of the arts. I am more than ancient; I am eternal. Even before life commenced upon this earth, I was here -- in the winds and the waves. When the first trees and flowers and grasses appeared, I was among them. And when Man came, I at once became the most delicate, most subtle, and most powerful medium for the expression of Man's emotions. When men were little better than beasts, I influenced them for their good. In all ages I have inspired men with hope, kindled their love, given a voice to their joys, cheered them on to valorous deeds, and soothed them in times of despair. I have played a great part in the drama of life, whose end and purpose is the complete perfection of man's nature. Through my influence human nature has been uplifted, sweetened and refined. With the aid of men, I have become a Fine Art. From Tubalcain to Thomas Edison a long line of the brightest minds have devoted themselves to the perfection of instruments through which men may utilize my powers and enjoy my charms. I have myriads of voices and instruments. I am in the hearts of all men and on their tongues, in all lands and among all peoples; the ignorant and unlettered know me, not less than the rich and learned. For I speak to all men, in a language that all understand. Even the deaf hear me, if they but listen to the voices of their own souls. I am the food of love. I have taught men gentleness and peace; and I have led them onward to heroic deeds. I comfort the lonely, and I harmonize the discord of crowds. I am a necessary luxury to all men. I AM MUSIC." ~ Allan C. Inman

"You have remarked that some of us call Jesus the Christ, and some The Word, and others call Him the Nazarene, and still others the Son of Man. I will try to make these names clear in the light that is given me. The Christ, He who was in the ancient of days, is the flame of God that dwells in the spirit of man. He is the breath of life that visits us, and takes unto Himself a body like our bodies. He is the will of the Lord. He is the first Word, which would speak with our voice and live in our ear that we may heed and understand. And the Word of the Lord ourGod builded a house of flesh and bones, and was man like unto you and myself. For we could not hear the song of the bodiless wind nor see our greater self walking in the mist. Many times the Christ has come to the world, and He has walked many lands. And always He has been deemed a stranger and a madman. Yet the sound of His voice descended never to emptiness, for the memory of man keeps that which his mind takes no care to keep. This is the Christ, the innermost and the height, who walks with man towards Eternity. Have you not heard of Him at the crossroads of India? And in the land of the Magi, and upon the sands of Egypt? And here in your North Country your bards of old sang of Prometheus, the fire-bringer, he who was the desire of man fulfilled, the caged hope made free; and of Orpheus, who came with a voice and a lyre to quicken the spirit in beast and man. And know you not of Mithra the king, and of Zoroaster the prophet of the Persians, who woke from man's ancient sleep and stood at the bed of our dreaming? We ourselves become man anointed when we meet in the Temple Invisible, once every thousand years. Then comes one forth embodied, and at His coming our silence turns to singing." ~ Kahlil Gibran (Jesus The Son Of Man, 1928)
"The birth of Divinity which awaits us all is celebrated now at this season... a moment of giving one to another wherein the selflessness to be discovered is but the ONE SELF sharing itself.... for there is no one else... there is but thee and me and I do not exist by myself but you do." ~ Derek Lamar (I Have No Self But Thee)

The Christ continues.....

Monday, December 21st

"The 'still small voice' of the Innermost Self comes as thought, but this thought is not generated in the restless, outer garment of the mind. It arises out of a source of wisdom of which the concrete mind is unaware. It comes from the interior depth of being and communicates its wisdom to the personality when the personal mind becomes still enough to listen.
"Many individuals assume that nothing can be done about controlling the mind, but this is not true. Lower mind can be trained to be a good, if not a perfect instrument for receiving wise counsel and intuitive understanding from this inner or higher level of mind. The outer mind can become like a pool of still water, mirroring and reflecting the inner radiances of Higher Mind.
"There is nothing strange or mysterious about this. All so-called creative individuals make use of this faculty of Higher Mind, either consciously or unconsciously. It is not just the genius who has a creative mind. All have this creative mind in latency and, through effort, latent creative genius can be nurtured and brought into actuality. All have the ability to be creative when the inner wisdom of Higher Mind is brought through into consciousness." ~ Jessie K. Crum (the Art of Inner Listening, 1975)
"Often a genius is not creative, but to discover creativity is to discover genius within oneself for it comes not from one's limited being but their True Nature which extends itself deep into the collective source of all knowledge." ~ Derek Lamar, 1998

"I began to practice inner listening at home each morning after meditation. This proved to be rewarding in many ways. The link between inner and outer mind seemed stronger. Information which I could not recall having heard or read before flowed into my mind. In response to questions, the meanings of symbolic dreams, of ancient legends, and of sacred scriptures became clear. Personal, unresolved inner conflicts and hidden motives were revealed. I could observe them rationally without feelings of guilt, and I felt that I was gaining more self-understanding. It was an exciting and stimulating experience. I was eager to continue this adventure into the "inner space" of self." ~ Jessie K. Crum (the Art of Inner Listening, 1975)

"That Man in his inner Self is one with the Self of the universe ---'I AM That' --- is an idea that so thoroughly pervades all Hindu thought that man is often referred to as the 'divine town of Brahman,' the 'town of nine gates,' God dwelling in the cavity of his heart." ~ Annie Besant (The Ancient Wisdom, 1897)
"Its quickening as a vehicle of consciousness consists in its being made responsive to the vibrations that are initiated within, and the rapidity of this quickening depends on the co-operation of the lower nature with the higher, its loyal subordination of itself in the service of its inner ruler. When, after many, many life-periods, it dawns upon the lower nature that it exists for the sake of the soul, that all its value depends on the help it can bring to the soul, that it can win immortality only by merging itself in the soul, then its evolution proceeds with giant strides. Before this, the evolution has been unconscious; at first, the gratification of the lower nature was the object of life, and, while this was a necessary preliminary for calling out the energies of the Thinker, it did nothing directly to render the body a vehicle of consciousness; the direct working upon it begins when the life of the man establishes its centre in the mental body, and when thought commences to dominate sensation. The exercise of the mental powers works on the brain and the nervous system, and the coarser materials are gradually expelled to make room for the finer, which can vibrate in unison with the thought-vibrations sent to them. The brain becomes finer in constitution, and increases by ever more complicated convolutions the amount of surface available for the coating of nervous matter adapted to respond to thought vibrations. The nervous system becomes more delicately balanced, more sensitive, more alive to every thrill of mental activity. And when the recognition of its function as an instructment of the Soul, spoken of above, has come, then active co-operation in performing this function sets in. The personality begins deliberately to discipline itself, and to set the permanent interests of the immortal individual above its own transient gratifications." ~ Annie Besant (The Ancient Wisdom, 1897)

I Am The Good Shepherd (Metaphysical Interpretation of the 23rd Psalm)

"I AM that I AM, my own True Self, all my needs are fulfilled. My body is at rest... my mind is at peace... and my soul is stronger still. I face the changes that have haunted me now, with strength and confidence and zeal. I am assured that nothing can harm me now, since nothing that is evil is real. The Truth I am giving shall follow with blessings, unfolding me in return. Living eternally in the hands of God: I hold myself ever so firm." ~ Derek Lamar

The Lord's Prayer ( A Metaphysical Interpretation )

"Our Father from where our thoughts emerge, in the highest and lowest, I am all: the source of what I desire to be: all my problems solved. Nothing I owe can ever be real, unless it is already paid. I deliver myself into the light of Truth: the True Self that never will fade. For Thine is mine and the Kingdom is True: the Power I am standing in. The glory of all that I ever will be... I am free... forever.... amen." ~ Derek Lamar

The Finished Kingdom continues.....

"The more you recognize that your 'self' is to be known, the more you realize that you are of yourself nothing. In Truth you are Consciousness which is not limited to any one role. However, the more you allow yourself to serve Consciousness, the more comfortable you feel being used by it, the more at ease you become having it flow through you, the more at home you feel in it until you can really realize that yes, this is your Ture Self. Not the self of you, you thought you had to sacrifice,. 'I have no self but Thee' and 'Thee is me' becomes understood. First there is a self, then there is no self, then there is." ~ Derek Lamar

"The unlived life is not worth examining." ~ Unknown

"The early Christians also, at least those who had been brought up in the schools of Neo-Platonist Philosophy, had a clear perception that if the soul is infinite and immortal in its nature, it cannot be anything beside God, but that it must be of God and in God. St. Paul gave his own bold expression to the same faith or knowledge, when he uttered the words which have startled so many theologians: 'In Him we live and move and have our being.' If anyone else had uttered these words they would at once have been condemned as pantheism." ~Max Müeller

Beingness continues.....

"You can misunderstand a concept, but you cannot have a concept about which is without truth, otherwise it would be a false concept, and if it were a false concept, what is it a lie about. therefore think about the concept of God and realize that even denial of God proves the existence of some Truth one does not yet understand." ~Derek Lamar

"Five percent of the people think; ten percent of the people think they think; and the other eight-five percent would rather die than think." ~ Thomas A. Edison
"People think that if they could find the answers to questions they have all their problems would be solved. And yet, how little people ask. "Too many to ask," they say. It's almost as if inately people know that there is more to it than having the answer spoken... there's actually work involved in the hearing of the answer and part of this work is in the formulation of the question as well." ~ Derek Lamar
"The art of living is more like wrestling than dancing." ~ Marcus Aurelius
"Admit that you do not know what you do not know --- that is knowledge." ~ Confucious
"He who would, may reach the utmost height --- but he must be anxious to learn." ~ Buddha
"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." ~ Will Rogers

"Our scientists can trace the law of cause and effect all the way back to the subatomic particles, but beyond that they have no reckoning. Herein lies room for the emergence of a divine intelligence, an intelligence which determines the arrangement of particles to form the various chemical elements that form the foundation of our material world. In reality things are not at all as they appear, because the physical cosmos is nothing more than the union of intelligence with substance. Thus we are dealing with a universe of vibratory action. Everything is energy. Do not think that life is bound to five vibrations of sensory perception, for it is much more. As we become more subtlized in our consciousness, we begin to perceive more rarified octaves of energy and light. Everything is life. Everything is alive with Consciousness." ~ Ruth Montgomery (Aliens Among Us)

"Say the word and you'll be free, say the word and be like me, say the word I'm thinking of, have you heard the word is love?" ~ John Lennon

"Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try, no hell below us, above us only sky.... Imagine all the people living for today... you may say I'm a dreamer, well I'm not the only one, I hope someday you'll join us and the world will be as one." ~ John Lennon

"Where there is an impasse there is a way out; because the impasse itself is the way out; because the complete realization of the impasse destroys its false appearance. As long as the 'Problem' is posed, it is insoluble. There is a solution, but this is not the solution to the 'problem'; it is the perception that in reality there never was a problem."
"I am, therefore, interested in giving up the search for new ways of 'liberation' and in deepening my understanding. I want to try to see the impasse in order to see that it does not exist." ~ Chinese Proverb
"No system can exist half matter and half anti-matter because the forms of matter annihilate each other (cancel each other out)." ~ H. Alfren from Scientific American "Anti-matter & Cosmology"
"A lie was possible only after man was capable of conceiving the being of Truth." ~ Martin Buber
"Truth is that which is so, that which is not Truth is not so, therefore Truth is all there is." ~ The Syllogism
"There is only Christ: he is everything & he is in everything." ~ Collosians 3:11
Truth is all there is and in knowing that, we can find the Truth in back of time, space and change and in everything we call a problem, we must know that the solution is in looking at the problem and realizing that is is OUR block which is holding back the Truth for Truth is ALL there is. This is the I AM state of consciousness where we realize that WE as the ONE are the CHRIST and in that KNOWING we are encompassed by the PEACE of the I AM as everything and in everything. ~ Derek Lamar

Truth is All There Is and it continues.....

"Mr. Gurdjieff says things to me about myself which hit me right in my feelings, in my essence, so that I never can forget them; and little by little the effect is to change something in me and give me more understading of myself and other people; at the same time it is accompanied by a realization of how little I actually do understand." ~ C.S. Nott
"The student never finds his Teacher until the time is right." ~ Thane Walker
"The word 'lying' was used by Gurdjieff in a rather special sense. In ordinary parlance it meant departing from the Truth, but since we rarely knew the Truth, we could not be blamed for departing from it. But we could be blamed for speaking about things as though we knew all about them, when in actual fact we knew little or nothing about them, and this, Ouspensky said, was one of the most common of mechanical man's activities." ~ Kenneth Walker

The Teaching continues.....

Sunday, December 6th

"We must always start with ourselves and take ourselves as an example, for we cannot see another man through the mask he wears. Only if we know ourselves can we see others, for all people are alike inside and others have the same good intentions to be better, but they cannot be; it is just as hard for them; they are equally full of regrets afterwards. you must forgive what there is in them now and remember the future. If you are sorry for yourself, then for the sake of the future you must be sorry in advance for others." ~ G.I. Gurdjieff (Fourth Way Instruction)
"One of the many aims of the school was to see yourself as others saw you; to see oneself, as it were, from a distance; to be able to criticize that self objectively; but at first, simply to see it. An exercise that was intended to be performed all the time, during whatever physical activity was called self-observation." ~ Fritze Peters (Boyhood With Gurdjieff)
"In order for people to be able to work together, it was necessary for them to love each other and to love the same aim." ~ G.I. Gurdjieff (Fourth Way Instruction)

Facing Oneself In Love continues.....

Saturday, December 5th

"I believe that man's growth is a process of continuous birth, of continuous awakening. We are usually half asleep and only sufficiently awake to go about our business; but we are not awake enough to go about living, which is the only task that matters for a living being. The great leaders of the human race are those who have awakened man from his half-slumber. The great enemies of humanity are those who put it to sleep, and it does not matter whether their sleeping potion is the worship of God or that of the Golden Calf." ~ Erich Fromm (The Gospel Of Zen by several authors)

Waking Up continues.....

Friday, December 4th

"Both the continuous and discontinuous ideas about movement make a fundamental error. They view movement abstractly and aren't faithful to the way movement is actually experienced. The traditional approaches to movement view it as taking place over time. For example, a person walks from one side of the room to the other. This takes a certain time. Each step is like a tick on the clock or a point on a line. The movement is viewed by scientists and the rest of us conceptually as if the whole trip were present all at once. Movement is described as both its beginning and its end. If someone asked the person what his movement was he'd say, 'I went from here to there,' from one point in the room to another. But was this really his experience of movement while he was moving?" ~ David Bohm
"You know what the trouble is... ... the trouble is that probably all the good things in life take place in no more than a minute. I mean, all added up I'll betcha at the end of 70 years you'll have lived so long you can sit down and figure the whole thing out. You spent 19 years sleeping, you spent 5 years going to the bathroom, you spent 35 years doing some kind of work you absolutely hated, you spent 7,853 minutes blinking your eyes, and added to that you have that one minute of good things... ... then one day you wonder whether your minute's up." ~ Dory Previn (Come Saturday Morning)
"If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present." ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein
"In back of time, space and change there is a fundamental reality." ~ Thane Walker
"Matter is equivalent to energy, gravity to acceleration, space to time. It is all one unified field. The universe is whole and everything is ultimately equivalent to and transforms into everything else (depending on the relative motion of the observer.)" ~ Albert Einstein
"Time is the unfoldment of the infinite nowness of expression in symbolic terms, as we understand it, at that point in time, our version of Reality, to the extent we are able to cognize it." ~ Derek Lamar

Time Marches On.....

Thursday, December 3rd

"In each of us exists another being that we don't know. They speak to us through our dreams and let us know that they see us far different from who we believe to be. Thus, when we find ourselves in a difficult situation or with a problem that can not be solved, this other, stranger, can sometimes enlighten us more truly than any other about how to modify the attitude that caused us the difficulty." ~ C.G. Jung

"When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf, And the world makes you King for a day, Then go to the mirror and look at yourself, And see what that guy has to say.   For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife, Who judgement upon you must pass. The feller whose verdict counts most in your life Is the guy staring back from the glass.   He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest, For he's with you clear up to the end, And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test If the guy in the glass is your friend.   You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum, And think you're a wonderful guy, But the man in the glass says you're only a bum If you can't look him straight in the eye.   You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years, And get pats on the back as you pass, But your final reward will be heartaches and tears If you've cheated the guy in the glass. ~ Dale Wimbrow Winbrow Family Web Site
But don't feel so clever if you are inclined, To think that perhaps all is well, 'Cuz many a soul has stared in that mirror, and managed to look right past Hell. So look again and imagine it's true. There is light there beyond that reflection, though others have told you what you did deny. Something else escaped your detection: a Beingness so Divine you were afraid to look; so perfect and whole and true you were afraid that you weren't good enough; all the time it was looking at you! ~ Derek Lamar
